Heriditary Hemochromatosis one of the most common genetic disease. My mother and my uncle have both been diagnosed with it. My uncle had very high levels and is still suffering from the complications of it 5yrs later. My mother not so bad but has to have blood drawn(phelbotomy) a couple times a year to lower iron levels in the blood. Can cause numerous other problems and symptoms. See the American Hemochromatosis Society web pages for detailed info. Let the rest of your family members know if you have it and have children checked also. There is a genetic test that will posistively identify if it is Heriditary Hemochromatosis. You will have to ask your physcian to specifically to perfom these tests.
