I don't believe so because DVD's are not recorded in High Def. there is a new technology on the horizon which will be called HD DVD (High Density Digital Versatile Disc or High Definition Digital Video Disc) which will be a High Definition sound and video format of the old DVD (never imagined it would get better than DVD until HD came around!)

There are DVD players that output the video in high definition format (1080i or 720p) even though the picture is not HD. Some believe that the picture quality with these formats is better (but still not HD).

you will have to purchase a highdef dvd to watch there are not many out there because they were a flop. the newest out is blueray but you can only buy a player for your home and it runs a whopping grand

There is no software for that. scalers are hardware in which they pick a group of pixels and then "rebuilding them" the better the scaler the more pixel it picks and "rebuild" , you get 480p SD image in HD resolution.
