I think it is acceptable if the shop allows it. I think it just isn't very classy!!
To see a chav with his t-shirt tucked in the back of his tracksuit bottoms is a bit off putting, but hey ho, they are the ones who look like twats not me so I don't worry!

I like men in general, and I like to look at a nicely built man as much as the next woman, but I don't like to see men walking around with their shirts off. It just seems a bit tacky to me.
I don't mind it at a park, or a pool, or the beach, but it does really bother me when I seem them walking around town that way. Somehow, it seems to communicate a complete disregard for both propriety and the feelings of others. Luckily, where I live in the US, most businesses have rather strict "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service" policies, and if a man is just hanging out on the street, he will most likely be told by passersby to put a shirt on, that is if the police don't get to him first. Even construction workers, who frequently work shirtless during the summer, at least put on a tank top or T-shirt as soon as they step off the work site. I just think going shirtless shows a complete lack of class.

I think it's just a bit inappropriate. Even a guy with the physique of the Diet Coke bloke looks a bit daft topless in a town if he's not actually a labourer (not sure why that should be different, but seems to be okay - hmm...).
One of my pals used to work in one the main Cathedrals in the UK and frequesntly in summer he'd have to go dashing off after a topless bloke to say, 'please put a shirt on' as it was (very) inappropriate in that setting.
But on beaches, open commons, summer walks, outside country pubs, if he's got the bod, bring it on! ;)
(and even if he hasn't, if it's too hot for a shirt... His choice!)

I am all for guys on building sites or beaches walking around topless but it is a real turn off to see a guy walking around town like it. I think it makes them look over-confident and up themselves. Yuk.
Hey, us girls have to cover up even in this weather so why should you guys get away with no shirts!?

I think its a bit much really. If they've got a good body they look like a show off, and if they haven't... well, its just not nice, is it?!
I also think its inconsiderate because a) you have to file past them and they are normally sweaty and you just don't want to brush past someone elses sweaty boyfriend, and b) how ever hot it is, us girls can't walk around topless. If we can manage I'm sure the guys could.

No it is not acceptable to me. It wouldn't be acceptable for women to do it,
Its actually sexual discrimination and I think that the police should have powers to make men replace their shirts when walking around , shops, bus stations, on trains, in the street.
Beaches, parks & swimming pools is perfectly fine.
Good question by the way.

seeing a topless man walking around in the city doesn't do it for me either. Bit of a turn off really.
Great body or not it just gives me the impression that they are up them selves.

It's not acceptable. I don't want to be seeing that, good body or not. Plus there's the added bonus of BO and it looks cheap and tacky.
Also someone made a good point of breastfeeding in public. I don't think that is wrong. A baby needs to be fed but prudes disagree.

No, men can only go topless in a park or grassy area in a city centre, or certain beer gardens, but not in shops and stuff. I don't know why, but it just ain't right somehow.

People don't seem to have a problem with it. But if you breastfeed in public everyone flips out....doesn't make sense. I've seen men with bigger boobs than some women walking around topless!!

I would say probably not. I am not sure that it sounds like a good idea. Plus, what if you had to go into a store? You never know what could happen.
