We have 5 cats, and scoop the litter daily, and change it every 3 days. We use a "clumpable" litter, that's made specifically for multi-cat households. We've got 2 litter boxes, both covered, in the cubby by the storage room door, and in my room. My daughter and I combined households, and she's got her 2, and I've got my 3...all the cats use both, but our house is very large, and every cat, at one time or another, is in my room because I keep my window open. :) Anyway....
If you don't like the idea of changing the litter yourself....there is a catbox that actually runs a mechanical scoop through the litter when you push a button, scooping solid waste and clumps of urine into a bag that you can empty when you want. I recommend it if you don't want to mess with scooping yourself. WalMart sells them for about $40. And they're worth it.
And have fun with that kitten!

Well, you could do it when you catch it having something in it that's what I do. Not a lot of cats like all their droppings and stuff to be in there the next time they use it .But if you're going to change the whole box (change the litter) I'd say do it when you think it needs to be changed like if it's stained or starting to smell although you just picked up droppings or whenever you think is best.Usually once a week is good.

Definitely scoop it every day. More often if necessary. I always changed the litter completely every 5 days.
By the way - never use anything citrus scent around the litter box. Cats hate it and will find somewhere else to do their business!

We must have cats that are very fussy! We have two cats and use wood based cat litter that I completely change every day!!! I have to do that or else the cats take offence and stop using and decide the kitchen floor is a litter tray!!!
Also our litter tray in unfortunately in the kitchen so for hygiene reasons I like to have it changed everyday.

You should remove solid droppings and clumps of wet litter as soon as possible and top up with clean litter. Cats/kittens do not like going to toilet in dirty areas so unless you keep the tray clean then you may find he finds other places to go that are unacceptable to you.

I recomend using a "crystals" or "pearls" (silica-based) type of cat litter. silica-based cat litter inhibit bacteria growth, and is scent free, dust free and non-allergenic. It costs more, but it's worth it because it eliminates the normal litterbox odor that cat owners usually have in their homes by absorbing moisture, and trapping the odor from urine and feces. Scoop the feces out every day, or every other day, and replace the litter once a month.
I use Tidy Cat Crystals, but all the silica based litters are pretty much the same.
Good luck with you new kitty. :)

Get youself one of those shovels with the holes in it and take the clumps out daily. Completely change the litter when necessary. My cat is very particular about his litter. If he thinks there are too many clumps in it, he comes looking for my husband to scoop them out.

in case you want to regulate manufacturers of cat clutter (or cat nutrients) you're able to do it slowly. Use the former type and gradually upload distinct the recent type into it each day for no less than a week. for instance in case you had a cup of cat littler, you would replace in a tablespoon of the recent cat clutter for the former cat clutter for 2 days, then a million/4 cup, then a million/2 of a cup,3/4 cup etc. until eventually you aren't any more utilizing the former type. Animals do unlike quick replace with their nutrients or type of clutter. I

I would use wood-based litter, then you can just scoop out the soiled litter and just clean the tray out properly once a week. That's what I do.
