I did not knowingly download it. Need to get rid of it. How do I do that?

I had gone to control panel and the uninstall section. It was not even in there

Try downloading and run a couple of anti-spyware programs. They will probably remove the bar. Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/). Both are free.
As they use different list of what is considered Spyware, run them both.

go to START tab on ur screen. then click SETTINGS , then CONTROL PANEL then, ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS(generally 3rd icon on the first row). a window will apppear. click on the extreme top left icon. a list will appear. look for the toolbar name on the list. then click the CHANGE/REMOVE button next to the name. the tool bar will uninstall itself

go to control panel
Start, Settings, Control panel, Add/REmove Program. If the program is there, uninstall or remove it.

Use firefox browser, it's the best. These problems come with ie, firefox won't let anything install without ur knowing it,..., next, get those spyware programs running. ad-aware free edition. go to download.com you'll find plenty of anti-spyware programs there....and if you're having an sp2 windows edition , malicious software removal tool, ., run it also.
