Ok. I just had my son a week ago and I have been breastfeeding. I got out of the hospital when he was two days old and my breasts started that engorgement thing and some mastitis. My question is, is it normal for the currently unused breast to be leaking at the same time the other breast is being sucked on?

Absolutely! My wife's breasts sometimes leak when my baby boy just makes the sound of sucking even though he is nowhere near her breasts! It's a natural response, especially around feeding time!

Sure is normal, I think you need to go to the baby clinic and talk to someone, coming out of hospital after 2 days is way to early for your first baby.
Use breast pads.
You could leak just thinking about your baby, if the baby cries, when you are feeding your baby, the breast you are not feeding with will leak like a tap also.

if one breast is stimulated then both will start producing milk. you can buy breast pads and use them or hold a bottle under the leaky breast to collect the milk.
are you on something to treat the mastitis ?
i had this with my 5 child [breastfeed all of them ] and it hurt like hell . i was given an antibiotic to clear it up .
have you been to the doctor to have him diagnose the mastitis ? if not i would make an appt asap to get it taken care of . it will become more and more painful and get worse and worse until treated.
good luck and congrats on the birth of your son!
breast feed as long as you can it is great

Yes that is a good thing actually. When your son is eating, you might notice him sucking harder and faster at first, then go to longer more paced sucking. That's because at first he is working to get the milk from the glands, and then enjoying his meal when it is extracted. Usually when the other breast starts to leak it means that the milk has dropped from the side he is eating from. Keep a pad in your bra when nursing and you should be fine.

Completely normal, in fact it show that you have an easy 'let down' . It means that you release milk from your ducts to your baby without much coaxing. Thus baby doesn't have to work hard to get his food. I breast fed my son until he was just over a year and would still get let down from the non-used breast when I'd feed him. I am breastfeeding my daughter now and it happens just about every time I feed her.

I used a clothe diaper and held it to the side that was not being used. Very normal. It is important to continue to nurse through all the problems so that you establish a good milk supply.

I leaked for about 3 months with my first and 2 months with my second.

A good friend leaked for a few months with her third, but for the whole year with her fourth.

Sunshine...oh my gosh...leakage is totally normal for months and months! Breast pads are really awesome for thtat. In fact...my favorite were the washable/reusable kind. They just felt so much better on my aching nipples than the synthetic cotton ones.

Congrats on your new babes! And you should be so proud of yourself for nursing. It is the best thing for your little one. Hang in there. Once your body and his feeding schedule are in sync the leaking thing will cease.

P.S. Be sure to call your doc or nurse for nursing assistance. It can be a real challenge at times...but so worth the effort.

It's completely normal. It's called let down. You have milk in store in your breasts and when baby starts sucking the milk goes down. You can use breastpads or, if you have a lot and want to store breastmilk, also a "breastcup" to collect the milk. Make sure the breastcup has been sterilized before use, though.

Yes this is normal. I breastfed both of my daughters and this occured both times up until they were about 6 months old or so. Sometimes the "let down" reflex will trigger a let down in the opposite breast. This is very common. My mother in law is certified lactation consultant and this info came from her.

ok nicely first i visit anticipate that you're pregnant, because different sensible than leakage does no longer be time-honored. ok now if you're pregnant, the clean stuff is the colostrum the toddler's first milk. The leakage merely signifies that the toddler is coming quickly and your body is getting waiting.
