Everybody knows that barring severe health problems and mental retardation, girls potty-train 3 to 6 months earlier than they would as boys -- it seems like everything from the standing urination to the more obstinate personality to the lack of sexual identification with the parent normally training them (the mother) slows boys down. But what I'm asking is why, with all these things going against the boys, do some girls get beat by their brothers, cousins, and neighbors when it comes to how young they were when diapers were no longer necessary? For example, I met a woman with a beautiful set of fraternal twins 3 years old, yet her daughter was the one in a Pull-Up! I mean, when your 2nd child is a girl, shouldn't you at least be consoled by the "fact" that she won't go through as many diapers as did your son? Why can't one be certain that her daughter will be trained before Christmas 2008 if her son was out of diapers by 29 months?

Because averages are averages, and actual children are individuals.

Every child develops at his/her own rate. Some hit the milestones more or less on schedule, others ahead of the curve, and others hit it a bit late. If there is no developmental delay or health issue, one still has to remember that only 50% of children will hit any milestone "on schedule", about 25% will be ahead and 25% behind.

i dont get your point?! every child is different and learn at different paces. I've heard that boys are easier to potty train than girls are, maybe that lady with the twins, started working with potty training the both of them at the same time, and it just so happened that her boy got the concept down quicker than the girl did! my daughter is 33 months old (almost 3 yrs old) and shes not fully potty trained, ive been working with her since she was 18 months old, she goes on the toilet, but not everyday yet, so therefore shes not fully potty trained yet!

I dont get your point either. I know boys that were ready and trained by 2 1/2 and girls that were NOT ready until 3 and visa-versa. I dont believe that girls are earlier or easier to train..it all depends on the child.

My son was potty-trained at a younger age than my daughter. But on the flip side, he would have accidents at night and she didn't.
