why on earth does tesco charge £3.60 for a tray of raspberries when you can grow them in the garden for free? I really like raspberries, does anyone know how to grow them? if not I'll ask my nan cos she's got loads of raspberry plants.

Raspberries are not fully in season at present and those that are available are either imported or grown specially for this time of year

growing them is easy although you do have to put in some work. buy or obtain plants ( you say your nan grows them she may let you have some of the unwanted thinnings plants she probably puts them in the bin ) plant in a row about 8-12 inches apart and support how you do this is up to you .
when plants are established this years growth is what next years berries are grown on thin out excess plants and mulch with compost to retain moisture cut out the shoots that have fruited from the base of the plants each year after you have enjoyed the fruits of your labour

Raspberries Pass through many hands before they reach you. That is true with any fruit or vegetable. Each person makes a profit on the berrries which raises the price everytime it is sold again. It Is also a seasonal fruit and not grown in wide abundance.

To grow them you just need to buy some raspberry canes. Plant them in some good soil, plenty of compost around, but you will need to protect them from birds when they ripen by throwing an old net curtain over the canes. Ask your nan if she has any spare canes, lol.

I love rasps too. All supermarket fruit is a massive rip off. If you want to grow youre own you've probably missed the harvest for this year, they're out at the moment. You might be better off with blackberries, they don't fruit 'till late August.

Maybe because they only come out in a certain season and isn't a common fruit of choice.
