I think u should carry in the cabin to avoid mishandling of ur glass fragile things and the airline won't take responsibility if u checked in the cargo unless u have taken some insurance for that.
And when it comes to quantity ur allowed to take outside the country the first thing matters is the total weight of the luggage and u should consult some one in the other destination how much you are allowed to take and if allowed are u entitled to some tax after u arrive there and as i told you earlier u can carry any amount from the destination you r leaving unless you have arranged for the proper cargo to take them.and you should be aware of the weight allowed for each passenger on the flight differs between the different airlines so you should check with your travel agent before u get some fines or big taxes which you might not expect.
I personally feel you should 2 liters of alcohol to have a good trip.

It should be in your carry-on luggage. Most whisky is considered a flammable liquid due to the alcohol content. Flammable liquids are prohibited in checked baggage for safety reasons.

You are not allowed to consume alcoholic beverages on board the aircraft unless they are served by the cabin staff.

my preference is to carry into the cabin and hand it over to the stewardess for safe keeping during the flight.

I do not trust the converyor belt and airport baggage handlers in handling anything fragile.

better be safe than sorry. :)

You are allowed 1 lt.
You may try for a 2nd one but open it.
Always under your seat and as far as possible from your neighbour.
Never leave very valuables things unattended.
