if you're talking about in water color...it's because you're trying to loosen the pigment...if it's in acyrlic, it's because it's somewhat dry and there is a possibility that if you spit into it you can loosen its consistency seeing as acrylic paint is also water-based. If it's in oil paint, you are retarded, because that doesn't help at all...

Because you see the need to put bodily fluid in your paint in order to truly make it your own, yet you do not want to put the brush in your mouth because of possible poisoning.
