it could mean a few things
1) she really means exactly what she's saying and dont read any further into it
2)she may have weighed the pros and cons of having a relationship with you and decided it was better to stay friends
3)she may be afraid of losing a good friend if you ever breakup cos there would always be that akwardness
4)she doesnt like u in that way and trying to break it to u in the gentlest way

basically, either you're not her type or you are and she's afraid of losing the friendship if you get involved romantically...
the fact is, as much as we like to think that your bf/husband should be your best friend, the fact is there are too many things that can't be shared between bf/gf that can and are shared between friends. and if your involvement didn't work, then she'd lose you completely, as a friend and a romantic interest...
what can you do about it? well, if you're interested enough, keep trying.
