Im with them on this one. They may not understand you. How do you ask the question? My 1 year old and 3 year old say the alphabet everytime I ask them.
Maybe you should try to say it with them; so everytime you ask them to say it they will know what you want them to do.

IF they are really young. they may not connect the ABC song with saying the alaphabet. This isn't hard to grasp, try to receit the words to one of your favorite songs...you will probably have to fingt the tendency to sing. Patience...the kid in question will most likely become o showoff only too soon. :)

Not sure what you mean, but a lot of kids want to do these things by themselves and not on command.

Maybe they're shy or just don't know it. Kids often don't do what YOU want when you want them to; they do it in their own time.
