when my sister got her one she had it delivered by professional, and they said it had to be kept upright or you could lose the tune or something from it and they also covered it in blankets to move it.
it might work out expensive but in the long run it might be better to get some else to do it for you, because then you will also have the guarantee if anything happens to it

When moving a heavy object such as a piano you should probably go with a professional because they are insured. However if you wish to do it yourself: keep it upright, pad it, and strap it down well but not too tight or you can damage some of the scroll work and other decorative wood work. So that the legs are not damaged it is best to use ramps and to if possible roll it. However do not allow all of the piano's weight to rest on its legs when rolling. Have it lifted just enough to relieve most of the weight from the rollers or wheels so that the legs are not stressed by this side ways force. The best method would be to put a movers trolley under it and push on the handles as this alleviates the stress on the legs, but requires it to be strapped to the trolleys and once on the moving trailer that these be blocked up so they won't roll and the piano to be strapped to the bed of the trailer as well. This is the most time consuming but safest method.

If it's a grand or baby grand keep it upright. But if it's an upright piano you can lay it or it's back if you want.

When you put it in the van just make sure it is Secure and won't fall over. Cover it with a blanket and secure it with canvas straps to protect it. Failing that get a reputable compnay to move it for you.

get four strong men to lift it into the van - keep upright or you will loose the tuning and strap it firmly to the side of the van
