One biker hit with sharp cardboard and it bleeds so bad. It was on TV when I saw it. Can it be banned for now?

Several riders this year have been hit with cameras and camera phones in one instance. I do think they need to make the barriers different, or maybe a set of two barriers with a "no man's land" in between? They just get too close and reaching out, these things always seem to happen. It's sad to see them get hurt. I know it's a risk they take everyday, but the fans shouldn't be the cause of it.

Why ban the cardboard?

The crowds just need to be kept away from the riders. Until they do this, more Tour de France riders will be hurt. This is not the first accident caused by fans that were just TOO close to the riders.

It is not just the cardboard. The fans are way to close and hovering over the rails just to get a good photo or view.

Better crowd control will solve the problem.

It would be stupid to ban them as they are part of the history. I even purchased one from ebay.

reports last night claimed the tour organizers will not be allowing the green hands in the last 2 kilometers of the race.
i seem to recall robbie mcewen showing off an arm a couple of years ago where he'd been hit with one of those hands and it had taken off some skin. nothing to require stitches, but i think it probably should have given the organizers pause to think about making that finish line area as safe as possible.

Ban the (stupid) fans and spectators.
One of the riders complained about spectators throwing water in his face today during the time trial.

I'll bet they'll look at that now!!! Or maybe moving the crowds back from the side at the sprint finishes. Hushovd will be riding today.
