There are so many established facts about the earth (that even the creationists can deny) that run contrary to what the bible says.
If we were to believe the creationists we should believe that the earth has shrunk to become much smaller than the sun, and has taken to circling the latter, instead of vice versa, as originally established. Furthermore (confirming its sinful nature), it has floated up off its pillars or foundations, lost its four corners, and become a silly ball, on which there just is no possible mountaintop from which one could see all nations of the Earth.
Not to mention those silly clouds that seem to have replaced the "doors" in the firmament that let the rain through.
I wonder how many creationists will claim these are only metaphors. If this is the case, are you allowed to pick and choose which bits of the bible are metaphors and which bits are to be taken literally ?

Thankyou Victor L for making absolutely zero attempt to answer the question. LOL.

firs and foremost, these metaphors that you have chosen were taken directly from writers who used them to get the reader to try to understand what the writer was talking about. secondly there were actual places on the earth at one point in time where thos metephors were true

I have an idea. Go to the places I've been in the Middle East. I've seen the tomb of Job, Moab where Moses stayed behind, Babel and a cave where Matthew lived when he established the Ottoman Catholic faith. Maybe the early book that Moses wrote were metaphors, don't know, but I know what I saw and experienced. At Job's tomb it's always foggy and it's only on that hill. There's an awesome feeling in the air. Cows walk up to your face to be petted.
Wow Charles, Christians say the Earth is 1000 years old? Christ died 2000 years ago. The last book of the Old Testament was written about 400 B.C. which would make it 2400 years old. That was the last prophet. We know there were many more.

There is not a 50:50 chance of there being a God Victor. You can say that there either is a God, or there is not a God, but that makes it just as likely as saying that I will win the lottery, or I will not win the lottery. Certainly not 50:50 odds there.
Anyways, back to the post, yes the Earth does disprove much of the book of Genesis, but many creationists will either claim that science is wrong or that God created the Earth to look old in order to decieve people. There was no global flood, such an event could not happen.

1: Who said the Earth has corneres according to the bible?
2: Seeing all the nations from a mountaintop is possible: God shows you them.
3: If you sometimes look at the skies you can see the clouds are working like doors....they "open up" and let the rain pour out on the land. and then they "close down"
4: Yes there are metaphors.....most are shown by the Holy spirit...whether they are methaphors or not.
Besides try to put God in the picture...nothing is impossible for God.

The verb in Genesis in the original Hebrew for created also means recreated - and if you look closely the Bible says "Let us replenish the earth." Re-plenish. As in, already was, and now here's this new earth age we're going to build.
all of the religions are for this earth age, but talk about the previous one. Check out the Book of Job when God answers Job and his friends about the deeper meanings of Life - but asks them "Where were you when I created the giant behemoth whose tail was the size of a cedar tree?" There has only been one creature on the planet whose tail was that large - and that is a dinosaur - and there is God answering/asking Job and his friends basically with the same information you seek.
the Bible does not discount science - people do not read the Bible and what it actually says. if they did - they'd discover that not only is the Bible accurate in such matters - but the prophecies given thousands of years ago have played themselves out dead accurate through history, including the situation the world is in today.
if people would just read it instead of listening to televangelists

I am wondering if you are taking what you write out of context in reference to the Bible???
Provide me with verses and the version at which you are looking and I will do my best to convey my beliefs and what I believe to be true to the best of my ability.
Much of the Bible is metaphorical. If someone says otherwise then they must have forgotten the parables and much of the new testament.... including Revelation.
I understand what you are saying and asking and I would love to give you my take. I only ask for references and the version of the Bible you're using.

there is always the creationisk theory (christians come out wiht new therys every time somthing that disproves god comes out) that says god created the earth only a few 1000 years ago and that he made ti to look like it had been here longer, as a test. I.E.: You die.. you go to saintpeters. he says "do you believe in dinosaurs" you say no, you get into heaen, you say no, you go to hell because god tried to trick you and you fell for it..

I believe you are mistaken. It's the other way around. Any way, Bible is not meant to be a Science Text book or manual. You don't have to worry about what it says, if you are not willing to believe it.

They simply ignore science. They decide things like dinosaurs were planted by the devil to deceive mankind.

lets say theres a 50 50 chance of there being a god. if you dont believe and your wrong, you go to hell. if you do believe and your wrong, its not like you wont live life to the fullest anyways. studies have show people with religion live longer happier lives overall. true fro most situations. if you dont believe and your right, nothing happens. but if you do believe and your right, you most likely will have a better life plus go to heaven
