It depends on what you eat whether it will cause you to have bad dreams but sleeping on a really full stomach isn't good because you don't get as much REM sleep. In addition, if you are laying on your back and your stomach is digesting and pumping out digestive acid it is only a matter of time before it will start to burn your esophagus. If this goes on for years and years the damage can get to be so bad that it can cause what is called Barret's esophagus which can lead to esophageal cancer.
It won't kill you once in a while but if it is habitual thing I would break the habit and give your body at least a couple hours before bedtime to be able to digest your cookies and milk.

I have also heard the same thing.....what happens is if you eat late at night or just before sleeping, your body does not get any rest because it keeps on digesting the food so even though your sleeping your body is not so you get bad dreams and you wake up feeling lazy and tired rather than fresh.

It's not good to eat late at night. The food is hard to digest and stays in your system and produces body fat.
