This depends on the symptoms associated with taking the sample of urine, what else is in the urine, how the sample has been handled after being taken and the time of the month (for girls).
Urinalysis dipsticks are extremely sensitive and samples are easily contaminated leading to false positives. It is a very non-specific result, dues to anatomical reasons it is obviously easier for a female to contaminate mid-stream urine sample when produced than men.
If there really is protein in the urine there is likely to be some other positive finding with this to explain the finding (eg symptoms of a UTI, pregnancy or uinderlying renal disease).
Certainly poor diet can lead to poor health which may result in these sequellae but usually a slightly less than ideal diet is not bad enough to cause intrinsic renal disease.
Dehydration will certainly increase the concentration of urine making a positive protein test more likely.
In pregnancy it can relate to pre-eclampsia although specifically what you also need to make that diagnosis is high blood pressure, oedema.
Why are you sampling your urine, what symptoms have you got?

This usually means you have a urinary tract infection... probably caused by honeymooner's (friction) or not drinking enough water. It is thought to mean that there are small particles of tissue from your urinary tract breaking away and therefore is found in the urine.

I'm not positive, but I think that's a sign of a urinary tract infection.
