Expect pain every time you get a adjustments. And you get sores in your gums lots of times, so make sure you get check out your wires on the end of your molars if the dentist cut it short enough not to get stuck with you gums.

But you know- the best thing about getitng braces is you loose weight- cause then you don't eat much cause it gets stuck in your wires.

Dont worry though- after the braces- you will have a wonderful smile and tight body. ^_^

Hi Kaylee, just relax and breathe....this is easy. Orthodontics is easy AND fun!! Its nothing like having a filling done or tooth taken out. The most difficult part will probably be the 'spacers'/separators that your orthodontist will use to make room for the metal bands to fit around your back teeth. They usually look like rubber donuts and feel like you have a piece of meat between your teeth that you can't get out!!! They usually stay in for 4-7 days before your braces go on.

Otherwise, the biggest part of braces is that you HAVE to keep them VERY clean and watch the foods you eat...which is VERY important. After that, its usually fun with the colors and the pretty nice people you'll get to know in your orthodontist's office.

So give it a try. You'll be ALRIGHT!!!

By the way, I'm an orthodontist in the Seattle area.

Good luck

I had them for 9 years, yeah, bad teeth indeed. Yes, I had a lot of pain. I recommend always applying chapstick before sitting in the chair and keeping it with you.
As bad as my teeth were, I've not gone a week in the 7 years since having them removed without getting 3+ comments on how nice they are and what a beautiful smile I have.
Like others already said on here, it sucks in the meantime, but post braces, I'm SOOOOO GLAD I had them!!!!

I have to get braces too!! I'm getting them sometime in August.

I've been asking ALL my friends what braces are like and most of them tell me the same thing. Apparently, it isn't painful when the orthodontist puts the braces on you. But the week after you get the braces is going to be "PURE HELL". You'll just want to watch TV and mope around, and you'll be super duper cranky (according to my friends). But after that you should get used to the braces and they should feel okay etc. etc. But always after they tighten them you'll have a whole week of painful pain again.

If I were you, I would be happy that I was getting braces (like I am happy that I'm getting braces) because after you get them off, you'll have GORGEOUS teeth.

Good Luck with the braces!!

Expect pain and embarrassment. Expect torturous orthodontist appointments and constant discomfort. Expect giving up some of your favorite foods (including chewing gum). But foremost, expect to have a confident smile when the ordeal is over! The experience is daunting, but well worth it in the end.

It's not a big deal. I had them on for about 2 1/2 years. The only time they bothered me is when I had to get them tightened. It's a little sore, but nothing you can't handle. Well worth it. I would do it again in a minute. I had crooked teeth, and now they are straight. Good luck.

What should you expect? hmmm lets see....

The first day they dont hurt at all and you will be so happy and excited (or at least I was). haha

the second day they will hurt

the third day they will hurt horribly.

after that, they dont hurt no more unless you get them tightened.

the most painful time is when they take them off!! cause my orthodontist just aggressively jerked them off! ouch.

Ask for color bands that hold the wire in place. Your mouth will be sore after each tighten. They give you wax for that I don't quite know why though.
