On every motorcycle and bicycle I have ever seen the side stand is on the left no matter what country the bike was built. WHY?

OK it seems that it is left over from a horse riding society. Then I found out why horses are mounted from the Left; most soldiers were right handed and carried the scabbard on they're left. Mounting from the left it is not necessary to swing the sword over the horse.

Horses are mounted from the left. Bikes are mechanical horses. It's tradition.
Of course, center stands are not really "sided", but even center stands have their extensions to the left.
Good observation, there!

Most motorcycles are set up to meet US DOT requirements, regardless of where they are built, since the US is such a large importer of bikes.

I believe that having the side stand on the left allows for traditional mounting on that side, a hold over from our horseback days. Further, it gives immediate access to the brakes while straightening up the forks.

This is as I recall. I could be wrong, like that time back in '83.

Well the way I see it is that is the proper side of the bike to get on and off. Which goes back to the days when everyone rode horses and the left side was the mount and dismount side for a horse. So I would assume that manufacters went with it.

notice that most people are used to "kick" with right foot, whether in martial arts or soccer... so the left foot is mostly used as an axis so it is stronger than the right (because it support our whole body weight...)

the same way to mount a bike, when we raise the right foot, the left foot become the axis.

A lot of auto and motorcycle as well as bicycle stuff has been designed from tradition followed by making it a standard.

LOL that's because if you put the stand on the RIGHT side, you'd have about 10 million people that'd spend the rest of their lives in the saddle because they couldn't find it to park!
