As an avid golfer I admit that golf is boring to watch and seems to be a silly, dumb game. When my Dad bought me a set of clubs in 7th grade (I'm 43 now) I flat out told him, "Sorry Dad, but you wasted your money. Golf is an old man's game."
I agreed to go out one time, however, and was completely hooked on the game after just one round.
Here is what makes golf fun to play:
1. You get 4-5 hours of quality time to hang out and talk with your buddies, brother, Dad, etc.
2. There is no defense. Its just you against you; trying to improve your own ability.
3. Golf courses are generally green and peacefull and many are downright beautiful and secluded.
4. Golf doesn't require extraordinary size or strength. Its probably 90% mental and 10% physical. Even 5'2" ladies from Korea can hit the ball 260 yards and break par - with good form and mental dicipline.
5. A lot of guys I know take the opportunity to smoke cigars and drink beer!
6. It is theraputic and stress-relieving to smash the crap out of something and watch it sail!

I personally love golf and like to watch it on tv as well. It becomes a lot more fun to watch if you actually know how to play and you realize how talented those players are.

It IS a great game because you learn so much about yourself, including how you handle pressure, control your emotions, and become more patience.
Like MOST sports (unless you're a couch potato) golf is best enjoyed by actively participating in it!
