First off, I have been in your shoes. I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorder. At my worst, I wouldn't eat, and no one could force me to. I finally go the courage to seek help, I don't know whether or not you have done that. If you haven't I suggest you do. I'm by no means trying to preach, but since I went to my doctor and was prescribed and anti-depressant, I have begun to eat again. Things that I couldn't force myself to do I now can. I have finally gotten to the point that I no longer have to take the medicine and my life is great. I promise you that things can and will get better, just try to get some help and know that time heals all wounds.

First and foremost get to the root of the problem. This being your depression itself. Talk to someone and get help. Now as for what to do in the meantime I can only tell you what I do and maybe it will work for you as well. When I get really depressed or stressed I have a total loss of appetite as well. Be sure you are taking a multi~vitamin. Try to force one or two bites of something down. Something is better than nothing. I also buy the Walmart brand of Slim Fast and drink those. (not as a weight loss method) They actually contain a lot of vitamins and minerals and the calorie content is nothing to sneeze at either. I am sure Ensure would be a good alternative but I don't like the taste. Also I can not stress enough the importance of getting professional help. This can lead to an eating disorder without you even realizing it. It becomes a control issue. When you feel you can not control anything else in your life but you can control the food. It sounds silly but it happens. Trust me! Been there done that! SEE A DOC. GET HELP! Hope things get better for you.

Are you getting support? Firstly you must see your GP and get a referral to a good psychiatrist. If you are already receiving treatment many anti depressants can cause loss of appetite and you made need to change your medication.
Secondly be kind to yourself drink as much fluid as you can and try things like smoothies and soup which require little effort to eat!
Don't force yourself just try to do some small thing you like every day such as read a chapter of a book, go for a walk etc.
Confide in a good friend and take care

Sorry to hear about this. I went through a stage of depression and ended up with an eating disorder, its not good. Im on my 3rd day of recovery acctuly, and i've been eating a lot better the past few days. You need to start with get some help with your deprssion if your not already?. Try and make food enjoyable, i know you may not seem so hungry, but your body needs food.
Try and eat 6 small meals a day, and maybe eat blander foods, like sandwhich's and things to start with such as pasta's, rice, cereals. Hope this helps.
Ruth.

You really need to get some help with your depression, I am sure that there are millions of other depression sufferers out there, I was very depressed a few years ago and I know you do not feel like getting help, but there is no shame in depression, it is an illness and can be treated very successfully. If you really cannot face eating, try Miso soup, it is delicious and very nutritious. Once you can stomach light things like that, try smoothies and milk shakes, you will be getting the calories and energy you need for your body to function and heal itself. I hope that you feel better soon, and please, speak to your doctor, it is the first step to helping yourself get well again, you can do it.

i've gone thru depressions where i've lost my appetite and lost weight so i know what you're going thru. you don't feel hungry and nothing tastes good. you have to force yourself to eat small amounts several times a day and don't drink too much water cuz it makes you feel full. the most important thing is to seek help and don't stop until you find an effective treatment for your depression. left untreated depression often lingers and becomes more severe.

sure, you would possibly want to work out a doctor. i'd first see my kin MD. If there aren't any major alterations from his options, your problem may be psychosomatic. Have him refer you to a psychoanalyst, then pass from there. I had similar indicators presented on by a fearful breakdown. i got here upon I had a severe pressure problem. I purely sat back and enable the Dr.'s preserve it. Now my problem will be i favor to eat too a lot. a minimum of this is what my spouse says.(ha ha)

Well, for me, when I'm depressed, I just get so tired of the same old thing. Perhaps try eating something completely new.
