When I can't sleep I usually take a warm shower and it works like a charm for me.

Try a glass of milk. The tryptophan in the milk induces sleep. Dont look at anything with alot of lights like the TV or a computer screen.
Also try a boring book or listen to a boring sermon. If your really drastic, go to savon and get some sleeping pills.

Some simple home recipes that help make you drowsy:

Drink a cup of warm milk.

Eat warm turkey -- even if it's a piece or two of warmed up turkey bologna, it works the same.

Boil a few lettuce leaves for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat, throw the lettuce leaves away, drink the water when it cools to a drinkable temperature. (sounds stupid, but it's actually a legit home sleep aid recipe.)

Try taking long, deep breaths and count down from 10 as you blow out and suck in the air. Don't think of anything else but the numbers.

If that doesn't work, look for any PM medication in the medicine cabinets. Only take a 1/2 a pill though - they're really potent, especially if you've never taken one before.

I've had insomnia for years and I have a trick that sounds stupid, but it works for me. Shut off the lights, close your eyes, and try to imagine writing in your head like you would on paper and write one one thousand, two one thousand, and so on. I think it bores you to sleep. Good luck.
