When I turn the key it wants to start but never fires. There seems to be penty of juice in the battery. All of the lights, radio and power windows and locks work, but the dash guages do not light up (seat belt, check engine light, ABS light, brake light, ect) The battery guage doesn't move when the key is engaged. Like I said the engine turns but never fires.

Oh Yeah, the gas tank is full!

What could be the problem? Your knowledge is appreciated.

Problem solved. It was the ignition switch! Thank you for all of your answers!

ignition switch. it's what the key turns to start the engine. if it's bad, the engine wont' fire, but the lights will work, the guages won't work until the engine is runing.

I am responding to your question about your 1997 Blazer ,well if you are positive that when you turned your key on the ignition and its cranking (the engine is turning over) the only possible things that would make sense would be your either lacking spark coming out of your spark plugs or no fuel spraying out of your injectors. The theory behind engine starting if the battery power have enough power to turn over that engine is this; you will need enough compression from the engine when the spark plugs fire to burn the fuel that the injectors sprayed on each cylinder to keep on going ,so the engine would at least run. So,i would first check if you have plenty of spark coming out of the spark plugs if you dont then my guesstimate if i would base it on my experience from working on automotive industry for 20 something years would be a bad ignition module. This electronic component is located inside your distributor. If your truck doesnt have a distributor (Distributorless Ignition System)then its probably a bad crankshaft positioning sensor. If you have enough spark coming out of the spark plugs (it has to be at least blue spark to consider it good)then your next step is to check for fuel coming out of the injectors .If no fuel spraying from the injectors then assuming you have no problem on the computer controlled system it is probably a bad fuel pump.I also run into some problems with the fuel pump wiring on some of this Chevy Blazer ,this will probably give you some answers on your question ,Good Luck and have a good one

it could be a bad computer or...your engine needs three things to start...spark, fuel, and air. It's getting spark more than likely, and air. It could be a fuel problem. It could be as easy as replacing the fuel filter, or a fuel pump, or the injectors. try taking it to an auto parts store and they should run a diagnostics check for free to see if your computer is giving an error code, that way you will know for sure what is wrong.

Check your fuel pump and sending unit. Sounds like it's not getting fuel. Sounds like the sending unit is bad.
