Just remember to do your research before getting a bird as pet. Most of the larger talking ones can live 50 years. You also need to exercise them regularly (3 hours outside of the cage a day).

Good luck for you and once you've decided on a breed, don't forget to check petfinder. They may have something up for adoption that fits your needs. : )

I think if you want a great bird that talks, but doesnt get crazy loud, get a Senegal Parrot, they are a small to medium size bird. Great for apartments. They are not as expensive as some of the bigger ones, but still have all the personality. They are smart, loving, and considered "clowns" of the bird world. When cared for properly they can live 25-30 years. They are awesome.

Be sure that any bird you purchase is a hand-raised and fully weaned.

Well think logically. Wouldn't YOU be traumatized if you were a wild animal, caught by a strange thing, and locked in a cage, then taken away? Parrots are very smart, and they're like an elephant - they don't forget. But they DO adjust. Give the bird time. Sit and talk to him/her. Find a kind of music the bird reacts to. Find out what kind of food he/she likes. If he doesn't adjust in time, take him to the vets. Contact a Parrot breeder. Contact a professional period to make sure A) the Parrot is healthy and B) what you can do to help him adjust if talking to him, offering him food, and giving him/her time to adjust doesn't work.

I was a bird broker for awhile. I called the yellow nape amazon parrot the best of the talking amazon. It is in the yellow crown family of amazon parrots. All of the yellow crown parrots are capable of talk. They cost in the range of $600 to $1500.
The African greys are very good talkers. There are 3 kinds of greys. I believe the Congo African Grey is the best talker of the 3 kinds.

I was raised with several aviaries full of a variety of domesticated birds at our house when I was a kid. My mom bred and sold them as a business, as well as having several as household pets. The best in my opinion as pets that will talk and play back with you are African Grey Parrots, Amazon Parrots, Cockatoos, and male Budgies.

My cousin has an African Grey Parrot. His name is Boo and he's a very cool bird. When a phone rings, he says, "Hello!". From what i know, he knows about 12 words, maybe more.

A cockatiel. They are a easily trained, and very lovable bird, and they speak quite well. The males are the best when it comes to a speaking bird.
