God was not created, he allways was. See John1:1ff. God has allways been in existance.

He never "came" to be. God has always existed, he doesn't have a beginning and he will never have an end. He is everlasting. It's impossible for us to even begin to wrap our minds around this concept, but that's how it is. The best way to explain it is:

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Ok? So basically right then, TIME was born. There was no BEFORE this moment, because time did not exist yet. Time is a property of the universe God created, so basically until He created the universe, there was no BEFORE anything.

Basically, that question is not answered in the Bible, which would be the Christian's sole source for information in this matter. If anyone were to say they had the answer, they would not be speaking from Biblical Authority, but from some outside, esoteric source.

We are told that he is an eternal being. In fact, he exists outside of time as we understand it. We are simply told that he always was, is, and always will be.

And think about it; if God were a created being, and we were told who created Him, then we'd call that one God. There has to be an original cause, before which there was none. And if you were to get a definitive answer for this question, you should question its validity.

I don't think you're asking "how did God come to exist" but rather you are desiring to know why you cannot comprehend the possibility of an uncreated timeless being. You and everything you see is created and is in time -- in other words, there is nothing visible that is uncreated or outside of time. This means you naturally have no concept of timelessness or uncreatedness and will never be able to fully comprehend such a God while living on earth. The good news is that God doesn't require us to fully sus him out before believing in him.

Think of creation in reverse. 7th day God rested. 6th day he created animals and man. 5th day bird of the air and fish, 4th day sun moon and stars, and so on. It is natural for us to think that way going back to the first day and wondering where did God come from. But What if God created time? Where did time come from. If God created time then he would be master over it. He would exist in the past , present and future. He would not be limited by time. Therefore he would have always existed. there is no logical reason for there to have ever been a time before God.

John 1
The Eternal Word
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend[a] it.

Also
Genesis 1
The Beginning
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

God wasn't created. He is eternal. He is infinite. He is the alpha and the omega the beginning and the end. Thats my answer. I know its probably not what your looking for but somebody had to post it.

If God had a first cause then He would not be God, His Creator would be.
Thus in the Christian religion God has always existed, there was never a time when He didn't.
The Bible begins with these words, "In the beginning, God..." It automatically assumes that the reader(s) know that there is a God.
When it uses the words, "In the beginning..." it is referring to the beginning of human history, or time if you will. Before that God was existing outside of time, in eternity past. He is not bound by the laws of time as we are.
So to answer your question, the Christian religion states that God has always existed, and always will. He was not created.
Hope that answers your question sufficiently.

My understanding (being agnostic) is that He created time, so before he created the universe there was no "time" during which He could have been created. He always existed. Before time there could not have been a "beginning" in which He did not exist, for there is no beginning if there is no time.

Of course, that sort of contradicts the first line of the first verse of the first chapter of the first book of the bible, so maybe my head's not on straight on this one...

According to Christianity, God has always just been there. No one knows how he got there or why he's there, but he's there forever and ever and then some. Don't worry, though, it doesn't seem possible in many people's minds.

Well I think and this is only a thought but if the Universe has many orbiting energies and God was made by the interception of these energies. So the Universe are his/her parents. Who made the universe is a question I am still looking for.

I used to ask myself the same question. but then if you trully believe in God it's something you shouldn't question. come to think of it, some people might even get offended by your question. it's a really good question though. I finally told myself, if God is ultimate then God just always existed- as long as you choose. God only exists to "you" as long as you believe in him. So ask yourself when you began believing in God, and that is when he came to exist.
