I believe it is fairly close as both Catalan and French are Romance languages, but if I remember correctly Catalan is a regional dialect of Spanish

Catalan is not a dialect of Spanish; it is, rather, a separate language which is spoken on the eastern coast of Spain (and a bit in France), Andorra, and the Balearic Islands.
As for the similarities between French and Catalan, well…I don't feel qualified to give you a list of differences, but they do share a common root in Latin, and, according to Wikipedia, Catalan shares many features with French. If you know French well, it shouldn't be difficult to understand written Catalan. Spoken Catalan will be more difficult to understand but, with practice, not impossible.

Hi once again!
Well, catalan is some kind of dialect used in Spain, so, it is a bit more far from French than Spanish. If you want to learn a bit more about it, try investigating Joan Manuel Serrat's life. He is a singer and writer that was very famous some years ago, most of his songs are written in Spanish and Catalan. If you get lyrics in Spanish that you want me to translate, e- mail me at sejon_725@hotmail.com.
I can also try translating catalan ones, but that would be even more difficult than trnsalting French things
Bye again!

Catalan is the one of many Dialects spoken. It is spoken by the people living next to the Spanish frontier and is very much close to it. Actually it is safe to say it is a mixture of both.

Yes Catalan is a dialect of Spanish, as in L'Auberge Español. (love that movie!) so it's about as close as Spanish is to French. Well a blend of a bit of each. :)
