If you want real convenience, stay in Pathumwan Princess Hotell. It is on Mahboon Khrong Centre, next to the National Stadium BTS Station and is the interchange for the 2 BTS lines. To get to the underground MRT system, a short rise to either Silom or Asok stations will get you to the interchange for the MRT.
This allows you to have options around Bangkok, avoiding the land traffic.
Besides this MBK Centre with hundres of shops on 6 levels, you can get across the road to Siam Paragon Shopping Mall. Next door is Siam Discovery Centre and next to it is Siam Square. All are shopping options for you. Need more? A train ride to Central Chidlom will get you to a local favourite. More? Travel further east to E Emporium. Some more, get off at Chidlom Station and head to Central World Plaza, Zen Emporium, Isetan etc.
So you are pretty central in that 5-star hotel. Lazy, just go downstair of the hotel and you are in the mall already!

Ramada Tawana Hotel is one of several hotels that are closed to the BTS. It's not a famous one and I cant find any information online, but I was there at the hotel couple months ago. It's not so gorgeous but just comfortable and convenience enough for me.

mostly there're located in sukhumvit and silom like
- the imperial queen's park hotel (sukhumvit 22)
- the confidental
- the royal parkview hotel (sukhumvit 20)
- bel aire princess (sukhumvit 5)
- le bua (silom)
- holiday inn
- arnoma hotel
these hotel that i've just mentioned are quite pricey since everything is expensive there. if you're on a budget you should stay somewhere far from sukhumvit or silom areas Or check out www.excelloz.com for your best deal.

If you can afford the SHERATON on SUKHUMVIT road it's perfectly located because right where BTS and MRT link. You just cross the street and go upstairs to take BTS (skytrain) and downstairs to take MRT (subway).
