Our welfare people are fat and most people on welfare dont try to improve themselves. Then all their children suffer and think it is the right way to live. People in other countries dont have a chance so they come to America (even if it is by crossing the border illegally) and work circles around us.

If they made welfare living too comfortable nobody would get off of it.

Americans are not poor. We have the highest standard of living of any people on the planet. Even our "poor" people are wealthy beyond imagination to the truly poor in the world-- those huddled, suffering masses in those Third World sh-tholes in the Middle East and Southern Asia. 98% (maybe even more) of our houses have toilets and lighting. Most people have a car and sometimes two or even more. America allows its citizens to be as successful or as unsuccessful as they want to be. There is no reason to be "poor" in America. Our poor made the choice to be poor by not getting off their clintons and working to be something. Instead, they are waiting around for you and me to have 30% of our paychecks siphoned off and sent to them through Washington.

I would not generalize this about americans, and I don't think everybody chooses to be unmotivated. I guess I've seen both sides of the fence. I did come to the states in 85 and I did have a period when I did just that "work circles around americans"... I think I've assimilated into the culture to a degree, I've gotten married (wife is from my country although we met here), we had 3 kids, I lost most of my hearing, gained a college degree and a ton of debts. I don't know what else happened, but sometime after graduating from college with an engineering degree and being offered low paying jobs that lead to nowhere, I became very unmotivated. To add to my lack of motivation is the knowledge that I get to compete with people in India and China who are willing to work for wages that would not allow me to have a roof over my head and food for my kids.
I would say just don't judge unmotivated people. You never know what they've been through. I remember shortly after we came to the states, I worked at a job with my dad. He was used to be a boss in the old country so here he really didn't do much on the job. I had worked at McDonalds and we were trained to never sit around, always find something to do, so I always kept busy and kept thinking "how can he be so unmotivated", but now, almost 20 years later, I think I've been in his shoes, and I can see why would have a hard time motivating himself, when after working every single day he still has to feel guilty about spending 75 cents on an icecream because his paycheck barely covers rent and food and bills.

To say they are fat is a stereotype. I know some people on welfare that are thin - too thin, and they are going to class to try and better themselves. It may not be the norm, but it is how they are.
Yes I agree that if a child knows only the welfare system, he or she might follow suit, as it feels like the norm.
The people who come across the border are usually willing to take on jobs that you would most likely find demeaning or tedious - and the pay is terrible. Try picking fruit for months, cleaning toilets, or working at a motel as a maid for a few weeks, and you will be glad you are not them.

It is true. Those that don't want to really try to do anything to better themselves tend to pass it down to their children. Also the children's parents don't teach them the value of their choices. If a child is not motivated to do their best in school and stay healthy, then they are not going to get very far in life if they don't motivate themselfs. My mother has been on welfare before, and she tried her hardest to get off it, now she is finally. I don't get the motivation that I need to do my best, but I still try hard because really in essence, my motivation is not to be like most americans and be sucsessful in life. So yes, those that arn't motivated enough to get off their fat a** and do something should not be given welfare. Infact, I think they could be thrown over the border and let someone that really needs it into the country. It's fair exchange, and maybe they would learn how it feels to really be without. People take America for granted too much.

if more people would hire the gravitationally challenged then they could work off their fat but there is a rash of prejudice and not giving them a chance. You just don't know the GC as i do I have seen very fast running football players and GCs that can lift much more weight than skinny people. seriously they could very much surprise you if you give them a chance. I'm not heavy, in fact i am anorexic and when i was on welfare for the only child i dared to bring into this world, i was extra thin too. they starved us, and i had no money for clothes just enough for bills so if you imagine they are wealthy ...forget it. 200 dollars each month in food stamps for 2 adults barely cuts it nowadys in a high price CAli and no cash at all!

No dont agree. When you have 20 illeagals living in one house vs one guy and one women trying to raise a family in poor paying jobs (or maybe a single parent) there isnt much competition. As far as improving themselves lots of single mothers and other people go to school on the goverment dime with hopes of a better future. In this country you can work yourself into an early grave and get nothing.

While your answer has some truth to it, the subtle details of social welfar and humanism are much more complex.
Your point, I believe, is that the welfar system in the U.S. doesn't work, and that the proof is in immigrant workers.
Again, there is validity in this statment.
The Welfar system in this country doesn't work because of one reason; It doesn't provide hope. While you can sustain a family with welfar, just like you can sustain a patient with machinery, it doesn't provide hope or opportunity to overcome their situation, just like the machinery doesn't cure the patient. Pull the plug in either case, and there is failure.
As for immigrant workers, You have to realize what obsticles were overcome in order to just get here, and get work. Those that have done that, are VERY motivated, and will be hard workers.

I agree and disagree with you, alot of people that I know are on welfare or getting some kind of assistance from the government.
Speaking from experience I was on Welfare while trying to support my children by myself. I went back to school and now I have a decent job. Alot, of these people are not lazy and want to give their children a better life.
Don't stereotype people.

I don't completely agree. Some people on welfare may not be educated well enough to obtain a decent paying job. There are some people who want to get off welfare and finally make it. But overall, I don't think you should make such a huge generalization like this one. Unless you've been on welfare yourself, you have no right to speak on it!
