Okay...so here's the deal. Jesus was a jew. The difference is, that when Christ came to die for us, the jews persecuted Him, because they saw him only as a prophet, and denied him. We are Christians because we believe in Jesus and accept Him as our Lord and Savior. The Jews do not believe that the messiah has come yet. Therefore, Jesus would not want us to be Jews because, essentially, that would be denying Him. Hope that helped.

Jesus was certainly Jewish, but that fact is rather insignificant in the whole scheme of things.
There is no longer a single Jewish worship system like the one that existed at the time of Christ. That system was destroyed forever in 70 AD. Just as well, too, because it had already been replaced with a much better one.
After 70 AD, there was only one way to salvation, which is the church that Jesus founded.
Jesus died to institute the new covenant of God's grace. That fulfilled the old covenant and replaced it with a new one, which is better, and centered on Jesus and his church.
The laws and commandments of the Jewish old covenant never saved anyone. They just pointed out our sinfulness and our real need for a redeemer. If the old law could save, it would not have been necessary for Christ to come.
So, no. Jesus does not want you to be Jewish. He wants you to be Christian ... preferably Roman Catholic ... and it would also be good if you spent some more time studying your faith, so you won't have to rely on priests to tell you everything.

Jesus does not need you to be of one national heritage or another to be saved from sin. Because when you accept Jesus as your savior then you become something more than Jew, Greek, or American YOU become a child of the LIVING GOD through the blood adoption, which Jesus made possible on the Cross, by paying the price for your sins (mine and the whole world). IF you have asked him to forgive you of your sins. I grew up in the Baptist church but I was never a baptist I was a Christan. My saying is simple "Baptist by association but Christan by Faith." Enough with preaching here's the history leasson.
Jew : of or associated with Judea,
Judea :of Judah, one of the 12 sons of Abraham
Hebrew : of or from Abraham (from his loins) his off spring.
The Jewish nation is a people group not a race of people. There is only one race of mankind (the human race) no matter what color of skin or nation you are born in, So their is no such thing as "interracial marriage". Just "intercultural marriage" I have never heard this term used before so maybe I "coined it".
Any way I hope this answer your question.
Sorry I have to rebut some of the response I have read so far. Jesus was a Jew he was born in the line of Judah. see above.
You do not have to go to a priest or a rabbi just get a good bible go to a Christan book store and ask for help to find one.
You do not have be a Jew at all. It is not the flesh that God see it is the heart.
And contray to what the Catholic turn jew said Jesus Was, Is and Always will be the Son of God, spelled GOD not G_d. But He is God as well.

Being a former Catholic and have converted to being Jewish. In Jesus was never the son of G-d, he was man just like everyone else but he just happen to be Jewish.
If you can not get answer out of your Priest you may try going to a Rabbi and asking him.
I could never get any help or answer to my question from any Priest but got many answers from my Rabbi.
If Priest are suppose to help spread the faith of being Catholic then why is it that never seem to want to help his congregation learn more about being Catholic instead of always avoiding the questions?

My pastor explained it as Jesus originally came to save the jewish people, the gentiles (people other then jews at the time) were sort of an added bonus, the original christians were composed of many differnt religions who all belived that Jesus was their savior and messiah, that is where the split between Christianity and judeism began it was almost like a fork in the road -dont belive jesus was the mesiah?, go jewish (or whatever other religion)
Trust in God and your savior Jesus Christ? then your christian

That's a good question. And yes, at first thought it would seem to be that Jesus truly would want us to be Jewish as well. After all, the Son of God came into the world as a Jewish man, taught everyone the proper things to do, and had a direct relationship with God, and was God (John 1:1 and 1:14). However Jesus came to change everything, including religion. He basically created his own religion (Christianity) when He was on the Earth and then went to the cross. As you know He began teaching new laws and ways of life. He also said that no one comes to The Father but through Him. Also one of His apostles, I believe it was Paul, said that we shouldn't divide ourselves saying "I follow John, or I follow Paul, but say that you follow Christ." I would like to tell you a lot more, but it's getting pretty late right now. You can email me if you'd like. Take care, Zach.

A Jew is a person who practices Judaism...clearly not what Jesus practiced, so therefore he was not a jew. He came to revolutionize the way people thought; he came to change the laws and a whole lot of other crazy stuff that was happening back then (read the old testament and you'll see what I'm referring to) But the jews (mainly the rabbis) of that time didn't like it...simply because if people followed what Jesus taught them, they would lose the power that they exercised over their own people and so they opted to have Jesus killed. A lot of you may argue that it was the Romans who actually killed him, but when Pontius Pilot asked what Jesus had done, and why they wanted to kill him....the ones who insisted that he was guilty and that he needed to be killed were the rabbis....so you see....By no means does Jesus want people to be Jews, if anything he would want everyone to follow him...to get to know him...

The original Christians were Jewish. The wonderful thing about Christ is he came not only for the Jewish people but all the "Gentiles" also. There are Christian churches today that still hold to their Jewish background.

Exactly! for the Jewish people were an holy people, and in order for you to become grafted or circumcised into being a jew you must first learn and become what the Jewish people are, Holy.
LEVITICUS 19:1,2
1) And The Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2) Speak unto all the the congregation( the church) of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy.

I don't think so. Life is full of divisions (not necessarily negative). Look at human beings more like a single man made up of various parts. Each member being very important. Even each tribe or nations have divisions and that is the beauty of God and creation. The most important thing in life is love for God, and love for fellow men. That is the essence of what Jesus Christ's preaching is all about.
