Pros: The money; intrinsic rewards, like being able to change and save lives; respect and prestige that comes from being a surgeon.
Cons: The Hours, as you can get called in at any time; having a patient not make it through surgery; a lot of schooling is involved, which can be a turn-off to many; very competitive field (as are most employment fields nowadays); very small margin of error, as one mistake in surgery could cost you everything.
I think people should do whatever makes them happy, so long as it's something productive. If you really want a career in medicine, the only person that can stop you is you. Go for it, pursue it to your fullest capabilities, and don't stop until you've reached your goals. Best of luck.

yes you should do it! I wanted to be a surgent also, but I changed my mind to be come a director(not one yet). Anyway the cons: working late or extra early all the time.(crazy hours), should be a people person, blood, alot of school and training, math, takes a toll on your body.

The pros, money and possibly helping the ill get better. The cons: long hours, lots of college debt, blood, guts, death, malpractice and ill people who don't get any better.

tons of medical school training. You end up in school a lot longer but at the same time it is good pay and you can retire earlier.
