I don't think sin should be regarded as useful. Some misguided believers of the past committed sin after sin without regard for moral and religious proscriptions because they mistakenly believed that sin was a means of receiving the saving grace of God.

Unfortunately, not committing sin is not an option. To use an image from archery: perfection is hitting the bullseye EVERY SINGLE TIME - none of use can do that, we all "miss the mark" as regards our behavior to a greater or lesser extent on a regular basis.

Sin for me, then, is a constant reminder that I am no better than anyone else and that I require God's grace just as much as the next guy. I do my best to "hit the mark," all the while knowing that I am not perfect and secure in the knowledge that, even though I don't deserve it, God's grace will see me through.

We learn from our mistakes and often feel more passionate about those matters than someone who has never committed that sin. A good example can be seen in the debate over abortion. Some of the strongest pro-life people I know have made that mistake in the past. they work hard to help keep other women from having to make the same mistake and live with it for the rest of their lives. Does that mean we should all sin more so that we can learn more? Of course not! Our sin hurts someone. When I sin, I have to remember that it is because of my sins that Christ died. If we ignore his suffering for us, I don't know how we can call ourselves Christians.

Yes, IF you learn from it. Not everyone learns from their mistakes.
What does not conquer you will make you stronger.
However, what is a sin for one may be another's righteous deed.
Sin is a veil that separates you from God.
And the sins of omission I think are even more important than the sins of commission.
If the sin remains an obstacle between you and God, then no, it isn't useful

I don't need to put my head on the ground and let a truck run over it, to know it was mistake. There is a old adage that says a moron never learns from their mistakes, a smart man learns from his mistakes, and a wise man learns from others mistakes. This brings me to Jesus and He led a perfect life and the Bible clearly shows that. He is the example for the way we live our lives. We were made in God's image Genesis 1:27 and Ephesians 5:1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God. 3 John 1:11

We do learn from our mistakes, and even if certain individuals try really hard, they will still sin. It is human nature, and there are ppl whom don't believe in what they do is sin, therefore their behavior will not change, their sin will serve as a learning example.

we're supposed to be Christ-like. He never sinned. we do because we're human, but we are supposed to following Him and trying to be like Him. that means not sinning. especially just because you're trying to learn something.

by the way, just look at the mistakes of the hundreds of generations before us. lesson learned.

Sin and mistakes are synonymous but not really thesame. Sin is only useful to the extent that you get directed to righteousness. Unfortunately the power does not lie in yourself to walk in righteousness unlike mistakes that you could learn from.
