Well you seem like a great cousin to be doing all of this for them... Sit down and talk to him/ her.... whatever you do dont give up! Ok ask them why they are doing this... after you get an answer then explain why that is wrong just dont be harsh be understanding and be there for them, just dont get into the lies, know that if you give up then all of this went to waste, dont worry u'll get through to him or her

Consider that ANY action you take will affect the way your family gets along. Imagine the most ideal outcome: she stops lying and your family is then strengthened as a result.

Now, create a plan in which this can happen:

* Don't tell other family members about your intent. People will take sides because we're moronic animals.

* Don't question your cousin because that will cause them to shut you up which usually entails lying about you and THAT will be fun to handle.

* Provide a different way in which your cousin can crave attention. Sure, people like to be saved BUT people also like to be praised. Constantly point out good qualities: "You know, I never noticed this but you are REALLY sociable. Look at how many people you know. You have great communication skills. Teach me."

Giving your cousin an opportunity to remain in the spotlight WHILE allowing them to brag will at least satisfy their need for attention while making other family members proud.

Let me talk frankly here: YOU cannot fix this. Doctors cannot fix this. Your cousin is the only one who will be able to address this situation. And as often as your cousin lies, it's probable that they've been caught in a few big ones. So any way that they can retain the spotlight while not ever getting caught in a lie -- will probably sound like a good thing.

Eventually, they'll outgrow lying.

You need to tell her the story of the boy who cryed wolf. Just be like hey, if you keep telling lies, when you finally tell the truth no one is going to believe you. Plus you need to let her know that your not gonna fall for her lies and no one eles is going to either. Tell her that the truth well make her a better and happy person. If it gets worse i advise help. Tell her that she can be a better person if she just tells the truth.

Stop preaching to her that wont work. Either, Start lying to her. (she'll get to feel what you feel) or start asking her a bunch of questions about the event in which she is lying about. This drives liars crazy! It forces them to be damn good or give up and tell the truth.

NOPE....just ignore her...pretty soon everyone will understand exactly what is going on. That's called giving a person enough rope to hang themselves. And it looks like she is on her way. She will learn the lesson the hard way.
