Well, if a religion dies, it effectively does indeed become mythology. While there are some Astarus, there are so few that the religion is simply considered mythology. Interestinly, few monotheistic religions become mythology. Often, that occurs to polytheistic religions. An interesting thing, no?

Mythology has to do with ancient or old ideas that many believe but are not really true. Can we say religion in general is a myth. I think no. Two particular religions have gone through various tests over the years and they have continually come up with their heads high. May be not 100% but very high enough not to be discounted. Trying checking out Christianity and Judaism.

Religion can be mythology it depends on which religion you're talking about, a lot of religion is. However if one honestly and earnestly seeks the truth and investigates all aspects of the Christian religion, you will find that it is not mythology at all.
Any other religion will not stand up to scrutiny, but as an example if I were to ask you "Was Jesus real or a myth?" What would your answer be?
If you said myth, then you have been misled, and if you think I am crazy I would ask you to prove to me that He is a myth. Because as a past skeptic myself several things happened:
#1 At 33 yrs old I had hit rock bottom and only Jesus took all the past hurt as well as anxiety away. (if you had told me that when I was 32 I would have laughed at you)
#2 He made me do an about face from the path I was on, and then I investigated because I wanted to know more about this Jesus who with an initial step of faith made me feel whole.
#3 The more I discovered the more I found that 'hey this Jesus really really really did exist, and he really was God in human form and that he really did take the punishment for our sins on the cross.
#4 And guess what, I've read nearly every resource I could get my hands on and the overwhelming evidence, even beyond what he did for my heart, is completely solid./
FEAT
FACT Jesus did exist on this earth, your calender is based on him! Historical figures, even ones that had nothing to do with the events of the time document his existence.
EMPTY TOMB. No person of the times refute that Jesus tomb wasn't found empty, His enemies would have loved to disprove this yet even they agreed that the tomb was empty.
APPEARANCES: Jesus appeared to more then five hundred people at various points over the 40 days after his death on the cross. Jesus' own earthly brother James, didn't accept Jesus as the Son of God until after he reappeared to him. Then he became a steadfast believer and was later martyred for his belief
TRANSFORMATIONS: The disciples themselves were very cowardly and ran away upon Jesus' arrest and death on the cross. They were frightened for their own lives. Then after Jesus reappeared to them they became steadfast believers, them as well as many others were put to death for their belief in the resurrected Christ. No one dies for a lie.

There is much mythology in religion.
Myths are traditional stories that serve to explain the worldview of a group of people. Contrary to popular belief, myths are NOT falsehoods - on the contrary, when it comes to myths it doesn't really matter whether the story it true or not. What is more important is what the story MEANS for those who tell it and for those who hear it and for those who accept it as part of their mythology.
So it is with many of the stories told by many of the great world religions. People waste so much time fighting over whether a story is literally true that they overlook the allegorical meaning of the tale that, in the end, is vastly more significant for believers of that faith and for the cultures that are informed by that faith.

The word MYTHOLOGY literally means the (oral) retelling of myths – stories that a particular culture believes to be true and that use supernatural events or characters to explain the nature of the universe and humanity.
++++++++++
RELIGION is commonly understood as a group of beliefs or attitudes concerning an object (real or imagined), person (real or imagined), or system of thought considered to be supernatural, sacred, or divine, and the moral codes, practices, values, institutions, and rituals associated with such belief or system of thought.
************
So pretty much, "Mythology" would be the Basis of Religion. The oral retelling of stories that explain EVERYTHING, with a supernatural twist... is what people build the foundations of Religion... Since "Religion" is the group of beliefs that surround the characters/events/objects of the "Mythology".
Religion does not = Mythology.
Mythology is the beginning of Religion.
You have the idea.

What we know as Greek mythology wasn't really considered a religion by the Greeks...it was a fact of life. They built temples to honor the gods just as we build churches today. In ancient Greece, the people would attribute all natural events to one of their gods. We don't stress it as much today because we know a little bit more about our natural world than the Greeks did back then.

I don't believe that religion is mythology, but rather that mythology is an important part of religion. The myths provide a way to understand the divine and a way to live in society. They help us to understand the world around us and our part in it. Religion provides a structure within which to honor the divine and mythology is a part of that structure.

I believe the so called Greek Gods were actually the fallen angels from heaven the ones that Lucifer brought with him they sexed women of earth which there offspring were the so called hero's
Goliath was a off spring of a demon or fallen angel remember if you know anything about religion and this was long long before Christ came in to the picture but Lucifer brought one third of all the angels of heaven with him to earth when he fell.
In the 10 commandments God said thy shall have no other gods before me so what does that say.
Now to answer your question Yes but not a good religion.

Religion and mythology differ, but have overlapping aspects. Both concern assumptions concerning the supernatural or sacred, and the values and institutions associated with such understandings.
Religion is commonly defined as belief concerning the supernatural, sacred, or divine, and the moral codes, practices, values, and institutions associated with such belief. It is a structure of beliefs that involves the existence or nonexistence of at least one of:
a human soul or spirit,
a deity or higher being, or
self after the death of one's body.
Mythology refers to a collection of stories about a people, usually concerning their origin, history, deities, ancestors, and heroes behind the belief structure and faith. The stories discussed express the viewpoints and beliefs of the country, time period, culture, and/or religion which gave birth to them.

Greek gods are mythology! There is one true God and He is the God of the Bible. Many geniuses have labored in vain to disprove this remarkable book, but have proved it to be accurate instead. It is proof of God's existence and contains His laws to be obeyed. In addition, 'the heavens declare His handiwork', as does the design of everything in nature including the human body.
