can anyone tell me what Preussen place of origin means I found it on ellis islands passenger list.?

Ok- way back when Poland was being taken over by Germany and Russia- the Polish area was also known as Prussia. It wasn't the whole area of Poland though. My ancestors came from Tuchola, Poland, and at times in census records, they say they are from Germany and/or Prussia. Tuchola was in the northern part of Poland.
