First ... Ones' prayer must be acceptable to God.
Second ... If one has Unrealistic/Biased expectations as to what the answer of their prayer Will/Should be ... they will always be disappointed, & very often Assume that God does not either listen or answer prayer. However, nothing could be farther from the facts ...
When a person takes the time & puts forth the effort to get to Know what is acceptable to our wise/loving Creator -- & prays In Harmony with His purposes -- God will answer the prayer/s. Sometimes the answer is "No", & sometimes it's "That will have to wait", It may even be, "That depends on You." Our perceptions of both time & necessity are not the same as God's, but the clearer our idea of His understanding of things becomes, the more harmonious with His purposes for us we can make our prayers. Therefore, the more likely we will be to receive a 'positive reply'.
If we are out of line with His Purposes, & therefore unreasonable in our expectations -- then We (& those who have taught us to think that way) are the Cause of our disappointments, not God. This is explained so much better in the following Bible-based articles:

God is not human and does not have to answer questions like a human does. He, in fact, no longer answers personally but through the holy spirit. You must realize that God can speak anyway He see's fit, through the bible, through circumstance, through prayer, which is what you want, i think, or even through me right now. You must realize the view you have on your life right now and the view God has may not be the same, which is probably the case if your not getting answers. You need to quiet your heart and take in your surroundings and take up your bible. Something else you must realize is that your life is not about you but about God, so you must do as he says, not demand answers from Him. This is hard for a lot of people and the weak just scoff at the ideas. One more thing, God isn't a magic eight ball, you have to build a relationship with Him to best communicate with Him, just as you would anyway else. There are a ton of people smarter and more knowledgeable than me that can help you.

God Always answers but unfortunately no voice from the sky or note on the desk There's a Bible verse that says "Be still and know that I am God" which means that if you want to get an answer you have to trust Him enought to relax and pay attention to how you feel.I'll give you an example that happened to me. My teenage nephew went through a brutal chemotherapy teaetment for Hodgins disease. Scans called PET are used to follow up to be sure the cancer was gone. On his second one 6 months after treatment the cancer came back. After an even more severe course of radiation therapy when he was scheduled to have the followup PET we were all understandably scared. I kept praying almost nonstop to please, please let the cancer be gone.I was laying in bed the day before the scan thinking about it when suddenly a profound sense of peace about it came over me.No voices but the certainity that it was going to be OK.I saw my nephew later that day and told him what I felt. The scan turned out fine as I knew it would. Now was I 100% comfortable that it was going to be OK? No because, being human and wanting something so much, I keep thinking what if I'm feeling this just because I want it so much? Learning to trust God's answers is the hardest part.

He does answer, you just don't always get the answer you want. 'His will be done'. I don't know what you are praying for, but it may be something that is not what you need. God knows the future, thus He sometimes does things that we don't understand at the time. Somewhere, in the future we will realize that He did answer our prayer, for the better. Haven't you heard the song 'I Thank God for Unanswered Prayers'? That is true, and sooner or later, the answer will be revealed to us, and then, we will understand why things happened the way they did. God works in His own time frame, so we can't always expect an answer immediately, patience is a virtue!
God bless you!

god always answers, but it answers only by being itself, like you asking questions; you could not help but ask this question, could you? God can not help but be god either. So, maybe don't expect a certain answer, just listen, and look, and experience the moment you ask a question. Asking a question is actually an answer to the last moment, to which another answer comes about in the next.

God answers questions on his own time and in his own way. You must learn to wait on Him, and by the way, If i were you i wouldt expact to hear a great booming voice. There are many other ways of communication like with your heart. You have to pray throught the veil of your flesh and into His presence. Sometimes you may have to fast too. And it will most likely take more than 5 min. have the hope that the answer will exceed your expectations and also some answers come with a feeling of true peace that everything will be ok. i have had that many times.

Be still and listen. Faith in God will help you with your problem. God answers questions in his time and in his way. So many people have many questions, and so little Faith. If you have a lot of problems, then talk to someone. There are people at church, who have weathered many storms in life through their Faith in God. What you are going through, someone else has already been through. God uses us to help others. That is how God answers questions sometimes. We sometimes expect God to answer us the way we want to be answered. Who are we before God? God answers questions daily, it just might be that we do not like the answer given. Tough Love, Gracious God,. Have Faith.

It's hard to hear God's answer because our fallen humanity works mujch like a bad radio receiver. More static than anything else.
Those who are successful at prayer know that it's important to:
Get away to someplace quiet and free from distractions.
Try to pray at the same time and in the same place, everyday.
Be persistent and make sure you explain all the why's.
Don't forget to listen about ten times more than you talk.
Pray with confidence.
Pay attention. God answers prayers way more often than most of us suspect.

I've had a lot of experience with God answering my prayers. Keep in mind that how you ask matters. He doesn't want you to ask "What should I do?" He wants you to figure out what you think you should do (that's why He gave us brains, He wants us to use them) then present him with the question "I've decided to do this. Is it right?" If it is right you will feel really good about it. It is isn't right you will continue to feel confused.
And something else about answers. People sometimes say He hasn't answered their prayers when He actually did answer but it wasn't the answer they wanted.
If you ask be prepared to listen.
Three answers often given:
Yes.
No.
Wait.
And He doesn't neccessarily answer immediately.
Good luck!

first of all, what's the question (James 3 tells us that prayers aren't answerd if they are for selfish reasons)and second, what makes you think He's not answering?
Because you didn't get an immediate answer? Did you expect a booming voice from on high? Would you believe it if you heard it?
God will send A PERSON to talk with you. You have to be ready to listen.
