would you tell the cook that the seasoning on one dish would taste good on another? If so, how would you phrase it? If no, why?

Sure, but be careful how you word it. You might want to say something like, "Hey, this is great! I bet it would also be good with some......".

TrippingJudy's answer was very well put ...."Hey, this is great! I bet it would also be good with some......".

Make certain it is phrased as a compliment. Even if it's family they've worked to shop, prepare, cook and clean up a meal and as a guest it's best to show our appreciation and refrain from criticism. You're good manners and respect for their cooking skills (no matter what level) will show that you're a class act.

What makes you think that just because the cook is a family member that they deserve any less respect than you would give to anyone else? No; of course you would not ever presume to tell your host/hostess how they should prepare the meal they just served you. To do so is just plain rude, and you wouldn't want someone to do that to you, now, would you?

Just comment on how you loved the seasoning.......then find out what it is and use it on your own dish!
Invite the "cook" to have a nice meal at your home as well!

No, but try it so they don't have to feel bad about not inviting you back.
