We thought we were stuck with Geico because we had a single speeding ticket, and any of the other insurance companies would be too expensive. But we called an insurance agent anyway, and they found us a company that offered a slightly better package, for 1/3 less than Geico, and didn't care about the one speeding ticket like Geico did.
So, to find the best insurance company for your situation, I would call a regular insurance agent, and see what they can do for you. They network with many different companies, and can help you find the best rate. And you can still get quotes from Geico and Progressive.
Here's one thing we learned about the beauty of having an insurance agent. If your payment's late through no fault of your own, your agent can play the mediator, explain it to the insurance company, and get it worked out. We had this happen when our bank accidentally cancelled our debit cards before sending our new ones, and we didn't lose our insurance because our agent was there to help. An agent will also automatically search for the best rate for you every time you hit the end of your six-month policy, and if they find a better deal, they'll let you know. And they can do things for you like make a deal on homeowner's or renter's policies to cover your stuff, or foreign insurance if you decide to take your car out of the country. Kind of nice perks there.

You need to shop around for the best rate. Check the various on-line companies such as Geico and Progressive as well as local insurance agents. Insurance rates vary widely in most states and it's impossible to say which company would provide you the best quote in this forum.

Shop around and get quotes from local and on-line agents . Get at least 10. And be honest of your driving record . They will find out because every insurance company will pull your record.

You might try Geico or Progressive. I personally would try Geico first. If not that then look in the yellow pages for companies that sell to hard to insure clients.

Your best bet is to try to get your mom's agent to get you a "spinoff" policy with the same company. If they won't do it, then you're probably going to be best off with Progressive.
It's going to cost A LOT. Sorry.
