Would you consider yourself a Bible Thumper? Do you know anyone who is? How do you think the Christian God would feel about them? (Or, what does God think about them?)
I will post my opinion after I get a few decent answers. (decent=longer than a sentence.)

csme, I loved your answer.
I believe God says that His Word is the Sword of the Spirit, not the Club of the spirit. :)
I think Bible thumpers are what scare off non Christians. In my experience, they're often possessed by a "holier-than-thou" attitude, which no one likes, even if it isn't linked to a religion.
I think that while God is impressed by their great love of Him and their excitement over spreading His word, it makes His job of softening their hearts a little more tedious.

A Bible Thumper, in my mind, looks at people as objects. They look at them as a piece of coal. If you quote enough scripture "at" them - regardless of what they are feeling or thinking - then eventually the preasure will build and the piece of coal will turn into one of God's diamonds.
Bible thumpers have little compassion, they ignore the "thoughts and the intents of the heart" - they ignore the human being before them in order to follow the "recipe" of how to bring someone to salvation. They are like the scribes and pharisees who condemned Jesus for healing a man on the Sabbath. The recipe for salvation ("faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God") MUST be followed at all costs, even if you are reading scripture to a man drowning in a lake.
Man in Lake: "Throw me the rope, I need help."
Bible Thumper: "The Lord said, 'I am the Resurrection and The Life'", believe in him and you will no longer fear death."
Man in Lake: "That's nice, but I'd like to live a little longer."
Bible Thumper: "Thus says the Lord: 'he who loves his life shall lose it.'"
Man in Lake: (drowns).
Chinese Fortune cookie say: "The Bible great thing, but sometimes rope is better."
Jesus didn't always rattle off Scripture. He lived it. He came from a far place, to be with us, on our own terms, to hear our concerns, and helped us through those concerns, and THEN taught about Scripture. This is the eternal model.
Along with good fortune cookies.

i assume you are using that in a negative sense and that you would also use the term "God botherers." i suppose i would be considered one but the reason people do this is because they love you. If someone trys telling you the true word of God and tries to show you something it is because they only want the best for you. If a person is made to preach the gospel then something is wrong. (like Jehovah's witness. They use no scripture.) i use to think people spreading the word is ridiclous but after I was saved sanctified and filled with the holy ghost i knew better. People don't you want to go to hell. There are so many churches that you could attend your whole life and never be involved or learn about what the Bible really says. I did that myself.( i use to be Methodist and I had been raised in Christianity but i never knew that Jesus had said thinks like "unless ye are born again ye can NOT enter into the kingdom of heaven." " i am the way the truth and the life. NO one comes to the father but by me." If you are not a witness then you are not following the commandments of God. Jesus also said "go ye into all the world and spread the gospel to every tribe nations and peoples." there are also other reasons but I do believe i have covered the main ones
God bless you

Someone who beats people over the head with the Bible (figuratively).
I am not a Bible thumper by that definition. I will gladly answer any questions anyone has though.
Yes, I know a few people like that. I do not believe that is how God wants us to be. All it does is turn people away.
**added note**
If a bible thumper is as someone ahead of me said, a term for preachers that truly believe the Bible and are preaching the Word of God, then yes that is good. I have heard other meanings though. God does not want us to beat people with his Word. :)

A bible thumper - or what we call them a bible basher is someone who is the typical 'perfect christian' they are the sort of people who would have a gay child and tell them that they are going to hell, or kick them out of the family for getting a divorce...or even for getting an abortion. People like this would not be 'appreciated' by their god (if their god existed). 'God' is supposed to love everyone, so no....definatley not a fitting tribute....

Well my brother is a Minister and he still talks about other things. He plays baseball on a christian league and he does try to walk a christian path. " His attitude is God says it's my job to pray for them but it's not my job to save them" I actually like that in a preacher.
