Holland America Cruise Line,,,,,?

Question

has anyone ever sailed this cruise line before (their new Noordam ship). Any info would be great. Will be taking a 10 day trip to Europe this summer (Rome, Spain, Monte Carlo....). Thanks in advance! :)

Have not done Holland America, but have done the Mediterranian cruise out of Barcelona to Italy (3 stops), Monte Carlo/Nice, Greece (3 stops), and Turkey.

You will really enjoy the cruise, BUT, you will probably be tired from the tours because they are pretty long. For example, the port for Rome is about an hour by bus away, so a tour of the Vatican City and Colessiem will take about 10 to 12 hours. In Monte Carlo the lines are long to get up to where the Casinos are and to get to the palace. Same with Turkey, Ephesus is where we went and it was about an hour from the port. Same in Athens. These are tours you will not want to miss, so you will be busy many days with long tours.

Advice: when you go to Monte Carlo skip going into the casinos. There is a $10 per person admission fee and the casinos are pase vs what you will see in the US in Vegas or Atlantic City.

If you go to Mykonos, Greece, do get off the ship but don't take any tours. not worth a tour but it is a beautiful island, same for Santorini, Greece. Also, we loved the tour of Pompei and also of Pisa.

Oh, Holland America is a GREAT line. Generally, Holland tends to be a cruise for older cruisers. It generally us upperclass couples in their 50s and 60s (not sure of your age group) But, the Noordam is a ship that is much more family friendly.

I also feel that Holland has some of the best food of any line. The service is great, the ship is new so rooms will still be in pretty nice shape, people onboard are nice, the intenarary is very nice, etc. Everything is wonderful.
