We have a tradition that me, my wife and my daughter go see fireworks (last 4 years) and this year it falls on the same time we usually go up to my father in law's land and spend time up there. My wife is working this year on the 4th and I really want to keep the tradition going, but I want to go up north. Can't do both because it would be a lot of wasted time!!

Family tradition, at least that is what my dad always told me. Your extended family won't always be there for you when you know your family will be.

Spend the time with your closest loved ones unless it is a elderly grandparent who may not be around the next 4th. Inform your family why you made the decision and hope they will respect it. Have a great day and remember the importance of the day!

For me, it would probably be family tradition.
But, if you rarely see your extended family
& they do not live close then I'd probably spend it with them.
However, it would probably depend which sounded more fun. If one gathering included fireworks, a BBQ & alcohol, while the other was doing something more boring, I'd go with the one group who was having more fun.

Sounds like family tradition will be around again and again. Spice it up and try something different. Good family would understand.

Well what our town did is have fireworks on the weekend, so I went to my girlfriends house and watched them with her. On 4th of July I am going to stay home with my family and we are going to BBQ and pop fireworks. So my answer is stay home.

Depends on what the family traditon is. In our case, the tradition is spending time with the extended family. :-)

just stay home, have people come to your house, everyone bring pot luck for dinner, bbq some brats and burgers and dogs and still watch fireworks. your wife won't have to leave after coming home from work, and dinner will already be prepared. Happy 4th

Well tis depends on how important is your family and the extended family to you. Extended family are the ones who were looking after us when we needed them. now when they need us we should be able to thouch their hearts and comfort them. so i guess yu should sit back and think which is more important to you. don't follow your heart think rationally. spend some valuble and importent thime with your family. in addition spare some time with you extended family as well. the best practise in my country is have a visit on every weekends.
