Of course you wear it to the reception... it's that night you take it off, after the wedding and reception.

Apparently there are no hard and fast rules regarding marriage for either ceremony or reception. There have been some really strange weddings in the past few years and it seems every couple make the rules according to their own taste. I, personally, have never seen a bride change from a wedding gown for the reception, but, if the bride should want to do that....fine and dandy.

I think it is your decision to wear whatever you feel the most comfortable wearing. remember alot of pictures are made at the reception, with the bride and groom both dress in wedding clothes. Most if not all wedding gowns have a way to hold up the train .. either by a ribbon under the gown or even a large "hook and eye in back of the gown puffing the train up similar to a bustle. A person that alters wedding gown could help you out if you need sewing of hook-n-eye. It's YOUR day.. enjoy and Best Wishes.

I had a girlfriend of mine wear a very formal gown after she changed out of her wedding gown to the reception and her husband was also in formal attire, just not the tux to the reception. I truly think your wedding should be everything you want- not what everyone tells you must or should do. Enjoy your day- it happens only once (hopefully) and if that means wearing your beautiful gown for a full day, do so- IF that makes YOU happy. If you want to change, change, but otherwise, I would tell moms that you appreciate her insight but this is what you really want to remember doing during YOUR wedding. Best Wishes!!

Absolutely wear your dress!
But I can think of a type of wedding that would not accomodate this. If your wedding happens to be very small and the reception is more of an outdoor party, casual barbecue, then I've seen the bride and groom change clothes; but make it something special. You'll still want to feel like the bride all night long.

Most brides wear their formal gown to the reception if for nothing else there will be so many pictures taken there only one of which is the father/daughter dance, that is one you will treasure for the rest of your life. To say nothing about the huge amount of money you spent on your wedding gown, get your money's worth. Maybe your mom was talking about a tradition lots of brides used to follow but having an "traveling outfit" that their wore when they left the reception. This outfit was worn by brides who were leaving directly for their honeymoon.

I believe that your mother is wrong although in some cultures the bride may change into traditional clothing from 'the homeland'. It's all a matter of tradition or money. If you've got the dough to blow on another fabulous outfit then feel free BUT if it were up to me I'd stay in my gown for the following reasons: 1. hopefully it'll be the first and last time you'll have a chance to wear it so you might as well get your money's worth and 2. it's the only chance your guests will have a chance to admire it up close. Why deprive them of the opportunity to admire your dream dress?

There is not a "rule". However almost all brides wear their gown to the reception. Your train will bustle up so you won't step on it. Perhaps she was thinking of your "going away" clothes? When you change AFTER the reception into something cute to leave and go to the hotel.
WEAR YOUR GOWN!!!! it is one of the few days you get to feel like a complete princess!!!!

Most people wear their wedding dress to both the wedding and reception (unless they are held on different days).
However, some people have very heavy & formal dresses for the ceremony, and then something lighter and less formal for the reception and dancing.

All brides wear their gowns to their receptions. However, there are those who change into something else before they leave the reception.
