I assume you are using a windows operating system. If the pics are not in your recycle bin or anywhere else visible on your hard drive like other answerers suggest then the only other alternative may be to get a data recovery program. It'll cost some bucks for sure and there's still no guarantee that the files will be recoverable. Once a file has it's header deleted (the header is data that windows uses to keep track of the file) the data that the file occupied becomes free space on the hard drive. The data still physically exists right after you deleted it, but any newly created file might overwrite some or all of the data making it unrecoverable.

So if it is indeed the case that you emptied your recycle bin, and the photos are important enough to you to merit spending the money on the software then not using the computer at all or the least amount possible will give you the best chance of being able to recover the files.

By the way I think that buying the software is still a cheaper route than is taking the hard drive to a computer shop offering data recovery services.

And oh yeah, if you remember the names of the picture files try doing a file search for them.

Check your recycle bin located on your desktop. If the pictures are in there, move them out of the recycle bin into another folder of your choice, but don't leave them sitting in the recycle bin, otherwise it may get permanently deleted, eventually..

Click on your recycle bin icon and click "restore" which should be next to the pic icons in the recycle window.

try going back and doing a system reset. you can go back as many days as you like and restore what you need. i think you have to go into your control panel or something. look around and you should find it. good luck.
