A kind and thoughtful letter and a bouquet of flowers.

You will never be able to repay them so the best you will ever be able to do give an honest and heart-felt thank you.

It would also be very kind to acknowledge them every year with a card or note. And make a concerted effort to be there in the future when someone else that you may not know could need your help.

You are very fortunate!

There's no "proper" way. What kind of person is he or she? They might be embarrassed by your thanks so you could take them out to dinner to show your appreciation. Do something that means a lot to them and tell them how glad you are that they saved you if you think they won't be embarrassed.

I don't think there really is.How can you thank someone who kept you from dying?A card, an e-mail, or a phone call fall short of being even halfway decent.Perhaps a letter from the heart would be appropriate-everything else wouldn't be up to par.

I am not sure if there is a "proper way" in that situation. Other than a verbal thank you. But certainly keeping them in your thoughts and prayers would also be a kind gester

Yes that would necessitate a big thank you. I think a thank you note is always proper no matter the situation.

Let it come out of your heart. Don't rehearse anything artificial. They'll appreciate more a heartfelt though simple thank you, than an impressive and elaborate but cold present.

Just let them know you are very thankful... maybe take them out to dinner and pay for their meal. Or take them to the movies and pay for their ticket.

Also, homemade gifts are always the best.

Open up your mouth and say "thank you". Then, go out and do something cool and positive with your life.
