Disney is the absolute best cruise line for families. The childrens programs are absolutel wonderful, and so much fun.
I don't know what your budget is, but Disney can be a little more expensive. Since you are a party of five, you will either need two rooms or one suite, two rooms are usually cheaper.
Other than that Royal Caribbean and Carnival are the best for families. Not quite as nice as Disney, but saves you money. Royal Caribbean would be my choice of the two.

Go with Disney. It is a little more pricey, but worth every penny. They are top notch. It isn't like a wild, kids only cruise. It is just very kid friendly. We just got off of a 4 night cruise and are planning another cruise with them next year. My 7 year old enjoyed swimming and spending time in the Oceanear's Lab. He loved the shows every evening. The cruise held a lot of dances/shows on the deck and he would go up and dance each and every time. The counselors really were able to bring out the best and most fun in each child. Each night we had to drag him to bed. My 13 year old had a ball. There is a teen club on the ship and we really never saw him. They keep the teenagers hopping. They played games, saw first run shows and had dancing parties.
There is a big ESPN court on the top deck. The kids of all ages really enjoyed that area. The pools are awesome. Overall it was the best cruise experience I have ever had.
One of the very neat things about Disney is that when you board the ship, Disney will announce your family's name and say "now welcoming..." and then there are applauds. There is staff on hand to clap and welcom you. Very special.

Carnival is best all around for kids. They will have a blast but you need to keep checking on where they go and what 's happening when they are there. Lot's for Mom and Dad to do also. Usually less costly than most others. Best bet is to ask your local travel agent and then check on-line against what you agent comes up with. Enjoy !!

Disney, hands down. We also like Royal Caribbean but their baby sitting/Kids Club was atrocious, don't use it. Heard awful things about Carnivale. The upper scale cos., don't welcome kids, too many older people. GO DISNEY, lol.
One of the counselors on R.C.'s Explorer of the Seas in 2003, "Josh", purposefully struck my 7 year old daughter on the head. My 9 year old witnessed it and told me. I complained and nothing was done, except he was pulled off for the remainder of the cruise. This was my personal experience. Cheap is ok for me, but when my children are involved, I no longer cut corners.

Any of the mainstream lines will be fine, they are all pretty similar. CCL has great kids programs as does RCCL. CCL usually is about 100pp cheaper. RCCL ships are usually 1/2 step nicer and have the ice skating rinks, rock climbing walls etc. Best place to research is www.cruisecritic.com and check the message boards.

try norwigen because then its freestyle(compleatly) and then you dont have to watch thier behavior in public places and there is a lot to do and you can never get bored. theres even really fun babysitting. there is also a kids pool thats only 3 ft deep but really fun with water slides. its the best with children...take it from me (only 13)
