If you are not looking for credit (for high school or college), you can try to get a private tutor. That's what I did and it works really well. I emailed the head of the language department at the local University, and asked her if she knew and students that could tutor me. She knew a girl, and we get along great, and she has helped me so much. I pay $10/ hour, once a week. I drive myself to the college to meet her. I like having a tutor that has lived in Japan because she tells me how the language is actually used, and other thing about the language that makes me sound more like a native speaking.

Depends on where you live. Most places in the West have at least a college course, private course, or tutoring for most languages. Just check your Yellow Books and Google a little.
Buying CDs, being taught on the 'net, or trying to teach yourself is not recommended.

I'm right now taking Japanese classes and after having studies for 3 months i can now have a straight conversation, so i would say the school that i am in is pretty good.

Oh, i almost forgot, the school i am studying in is Nagasaki Sogo Kagaku Daigaku in Nagasaki, Japan.

good luck,
gamabatte.
