Idols are those statutes that ancient people make and put spirits in... like those of paganism (Hinduism). Catholics only have relics and symbols and such..... why with the accusation? Not like catholics worship other spirits than God.

This is said out of ignorance. I do not mean that in an insulting way. Ignorance is nothing more than lacking knowledge or experience and we are all ignorant about something. People who make broad misrepresentative statements about the Catholic beliefs simply do not have knowledge about or experience with the faith and are speaking about things they do not understand.
On the other hand , in every scarey movie regarding the devil it's the Catholics they call in to get rid of him. HA!HA!

Hello,
I am an ex-Catholic and I know why Catholics say that they do not worship idols. What is worship? That is the question you have to ask yourself. If you do not consider burning candles, praying to (for intercession), singing songs of adoration to Mary, Joseph or the saints worship then really what is it? The Bible says that there is only one mediator between God and Man and His name is Jesus. The Bible also says that prayers to the dead are not heard. The Catholics put their traditions above the Holy Scripture. God did not intend this to be so. Relics were started to acquire money. Indulgences were also sold to acquire money. The whole idea of purgatory was started so that the Church could sell indulgences so that people could get their relatives out. Catholics should read the Bible for themselves and God will open their eyes.

Diana!!! Im sorry for such the negativity. But i grew up Catholic for 18 years. Keep in mind that idolity doesnt just refer to just statues but you can also make an idol out of money and other things.... One pastor told me "you dont have to worship a tree to be an idolitor all you have to do is worship the paper that comes from it".

Go to http://www.catholicconcerns.com/MaryWorship.html
its a non-biased Catholic point of view (by a nun!) to see a nice way of putting it to you. Ive even emailed her(she took a month!) but hope this helps.

Keep searching!!! I used to think idoitiy was false gods and statues but its not that....email me if you need more info.

Statues in ancient days were just that, statues. If a spirit was put in, it was Satin powered. Why do we not approve, God says do not worship any idols or graven image. A statue is a graven image. I use to be Catholic, so I know what they pray to. Praying to the all the Saints, MARY, which is big on the Catholic list of praying to. Mary, as holy as she was, was a sinner like everyone else born. Mary has no more hold on Jesus' decisions than we do. Jesus said "who is my brother and who is mother" in the Bible when he was preaching and angering some of his home town people. God commands us not to worship anyone but him, if you are going to follow Christ, you must obey God's commandments. Jesus died on the cross so that HE could save you, not so his earthly mother of his disciples could save you.

Non-Catholic Christians who claim Catholics are idolatrous because of statues, relics, holy water, and the like, are misinformed, either accidental or deliberately, on Catholic Doctrine.

It's understandable how a non-Catholic Christian might not be aware of certain elements of Catholic Doctrine. Where some of them go wrong is in their flaming of Catholics for such alleged practices as idolatry. They mock our of arrogance, when the Christian thing to do would be to simply question the validity of such Catholic practices as the use of relics, sacramentals, veneration of Mary and the Saints, etc.

It is the non-Catholic Christians' failure in arrogance that leads them to pontificate such ridiculous claims as Catholic idolatry. We must bear their burden with patience, and explain our faith to them.

When you pray to Saint (fill in the box) for whatever reason...then you are NOT praying to God...when you pray to the statue of mary..you are praying to a HUMAN being who YES is an important person, but is not God the Father.

God spiritually made all of our bodies, yours, mine, Mary's and she was born from two mortal people whose spirits were created by God. Christ was not...his REAL Father is God the Father which is why Christ is half temporal and half immortal. It is what gives him the capability to take his life and bring it back again. YES, Mary was blessed by God in order to have Jesus without having sex. However..Joseph was his mortal father figure who was about to put Mary away prively because being seen with a pregnant woman unwed was as close to a felony as you could come at that time.

I think they do, but without meaning to. I grew up in a Catholic family so I'm pretty familar with Catholcism. Either way, I think there are many Catholics who really do have a heart for God and love Jesus. They just have the Mary and saints thing wrong.

Catholics pray to Mary. Catholics pray to saints. They tell Mary or saints to talk to god for them. I consider that worshipping false idols.

Yes, it's true. 17 years raised Catholic has made me aware. But, it's not horrible. You can judge a person on what they believe. I'm not saying you are, but some do and will.

Exodus 20:4
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

Mary is all over the Catholic churches. These are idols.

any thing used in worship to God , made by a mans hands is an Idol. made of wood stone silver and Gold. People can't put a spirit in idol. you ponder this as I ponder why people carry an grievous Idol to remember Jesus Christ. When that is not what he asked them to do to remember him with holy communion. why
do the make them grievous Idols? don't they know how to please
the holy spirit?
