It's posible, but after 40 years the people are not the same anymore. The person that you once loved may not be that same person anymore. I guess the only way to find out is to jump in and give the relationship another try.

i could see it being possible, but people change a lot over 40 years and if that one person is already over the other then i dont see them liking the other again unless like i said people change and now maybe that person may like the other again but just doesnt want to say, or maybe not and the other that is still in love should try to move on, heal the heart brake and find a new love

Yes it can and it happens all the time. But it sounds like in this case, one of the people is over it. They should keep talking, but the person still in love should be careful they don't get hurt.

Why not, but theres no way to see the future, you just have to say how you feel and see what happens, it may be each others destiny to end up together, or you could just be good friends, who knows? Only time will tell.

Thats a very hard question. Anything is possible with time. Don't be to pushy, but you must also realize when its time to move on.
