Be interested in what they say and laugh at their jokes. It'd be even better if you really *were* interested and really thought they were funny, but it's not too hard to fake it. But don't pretend to like things that you don't, like their taste in music or movies. People don't want clones, they just want someone to understand them. If you do that, that should take care of everything. Oh, and look them in the eye alot and smile. And make sure to take care of your appearance and act confident. Nobody likes an ugly loser. Being happy and successful is about feeling happy and successful. The rest comes naturally.
But if they don't do these things for you, then you should probably dump them, as they're not what you want. If they won't listen to you, laugh at your jokes, smile, and take care of their appearance, then they are bad news. It's really that simple.
