word of advice from a master mechanic here, don't let your gas tank go below 1/4 of a tank. your fuel pump inside your tank uses the gasoline as a lubricant and a coolant, and at a 1/4 of a tank the pump is still submerged, but as you go lower, you expose you pump therefore causing excess heat which over time will damage the pump to the point of it stranding you somewhere you don't want to be, having to have it towed, and bringing it to somebody like me and spending at a min. of $500 bucks. you will be pissed and I will be happy, because fuel pumps pay very well

I had 1 gallon left in my car when the gas alert lit up. The car wouldn't even start going downhill, so I had to roll it down to a flat surface to start the engine. My 91 escort GT gets 25 MPG so I guess it would only go 25 miles. Pretty pathetic since EPA rating is 26/31. A new O2 Sensor was installed last year, but I don't know why it's still low.

Our PT Cruiser can do about 50-70 miles, depending how we drive it. Manual transmission helps with that. A friend's Honda Civic gets almost exactly 60 miles. Our last car, an Oldsmobile Achieva, the warning light would come on as it was sputtering to a stop, after having run out. Very helpful, that one.
I usually estimate 30 miles, about 1 gallon, to be safe.

Depends on your vehicle and average miles per galon. You may be surprised at how much fuel you actually have left when the needle is on empty. To find out, check your owner's manual for the exact volume of your fuel tank. Then, the next time your needle shows empty, find the nearest gas station and fill 'er up. Subtract the number of gallons it takes to fill your tank from the volume stated in the owner's manual, and you'll know just how much farther you can go when the gauge hits empty

I once drove to school and out on the weekend for almost two weeks (1 week 5 days) after this. So probably like 35-40 miles.

DOESN'T REALLY MATTER!! once you get past 1/4 of a tank you are very likely to start sucking trash up from the bottom of your tank into your fuel injectors. this will cause all kinds of problems. clogged injectors, fuel lines, filters. if you have any sense and value your vehicle you would never drive on < a 1/4 tank unless its an emergency!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you ever see the Seinfeld episode about this? I have gone until I run out---- not long enough!! With gas at $3.00/ gal I live on the empty light. That light has been on so long I'm surprised it hasn't burned out.

I'd say about 30 miles. I suggest not to push it. You just don't known when there will be an emergency and need to get some where.
