I have a doggy who is 15 years old and just started going completely down-hill today. He can't stand and won't eat. My dad carried him outside to relieve himself and then back in and, when he was back on the ground, I went over to pet him. I noticed his eyes were watery and the fur beneath his eyes was dark. I patted that fur and found that it was damp. Did my puppy shed tears?

Your dog sounds very ill. I hope you are taking him to the vet soon.

I never heard of a dog shedding tears, but they certainly mourn - my 16 year old lab died this week and my 14 month old pup is grieving, but has not shed tears. I know their eyes water when they are irritated.

Either way, it sounds like it may be time for your dog to move on. I'm so sorry.

No one can tell me Dogs cant cry. As the other day me and my brother were playing in the garden with our dog, suddenly there was yelping and his legs buckled... we ran over to him and he could barly move (turned out his leg had shattered, common with his breed due to hollow bones however did have to resort in putting him down), while we waited for help our dog lay on the floor and I didn't belive they could but before our eyes he lay on the floor in pain and tears were coming from his eyes... thats the last image of our dog me and my 12 year old brother had

So don't tell me that dogs don't feel they are called mans best friend for a reason.

Your dog is very sick. He may of had a mild stroke. Yes they cry but the watery eyes is because he is in pain hon. 15 is a good long time. It will be very hard to let him go but you must get him to a vet very very soon! I am Part American Indian and have had many critters. Each one who has crossed over has came back to me in a dream to let me know they are are alright. Death is but another doorway we all walk through. It is not painful to die but to live with pain is. Wishing you the best dear one.

of course they can dogs are people too, you can tell by looking in there eyes. especially if you've had your pup for 15 years. our dog belonged to a drug addict and she was in a fire with third degree burns all over her back, she cried for month's with the pain . we have been taking care of her for 10 yrs. now she still goe's crazy when she smells a tweaker.cries and whines.maybe you should get a pup, for your pup.

Yes listen to Ruby. The dog must be in pain, if you father had to carry him to go potty. Dogs get dieases just like we do.
My friends dog went to bed one night, and she was fine. She woke up with her spine partialy severed. She had to be put down.

Dogs do cry, and they also could have alergies to something, food pollen, what ever.

Please take your pet to the vet, and don't let him/her suffer. If you have to put her/him down, I am sorry for you. I know you will miss her/him, but it will be for the best. No longer in pain for your pet, but your heart will be broken, and you will now him/her is in a better place. Best of luck to you and your dog. I hope he/she gets better, and you don't have to put him/her down, but if you do, your in my thoughts.

Of course they do .. but your answer to my question before made me laugh. There is no kitchen to step out of and for someone who doesn't like it when people try to push their beliefs on them your very hypocritical yourself.
Sorry to hear about your dog. Give him plenty of love and attention while he's still around. If he leaves you he'll leave knowing you loved him and not alone.

I have a 3 yr old Pom and I have noticed the same thing, I guess they do. She seems happy and healthy though.

sounds like he's very sick...take him to the vet....old dogs shouldn't have to die in misery...if it's time, let the vet put him to sleep. Dogs do have sadness...my dog mourned my sheltie for months...wouldn't eat etc. until I got another puppy.
